Saints Sport is done for the year, and I express my gratitude to all who contributed to sport at Saints throughout 2023. The sports program would not be the success that it is without the support of the Saints staff who give up countless hours for coaching, managing and sports administration to give our students the best opportunity to participate in school sport. Thanks to the Saints parents and families for supporting our program. Your encouragement and support of our students’ participation (not to mention frequent completion of EdSmart parent slips) ensure that the boys have access to sporting opportunities throughout the region. Finally, thanks to the students for your desire to represent Saints in a wide range of sports and the weekly Wednesday sport program.
I also thank the local businesses that have sponsored sports at St Augustine’s in 2023. Unfortunately, sport in Cairns is often a very costly endeavour when travel and accommodation costs are factored in. Thanks to the businesses below for helping to keep sport as affordable as possible for our students.
Congratulations to our JSS teams who competed in the JSS Grand Finals. All five St Augustine’s teams made the premier Grand Final and a combined St Augustine’s and Peace Lutherian team were in the Division 1 finals.
Saints were victorious in the AFL, Basketball and Touch Football Premier Division Grand Finals and the combined St Augustine’s and Peace Lutheran team won the Division 1 Finals. St Augustine’s were crowned as the Overall Champion Boys School and ‘Saints Combined’ with St Monica’s were crowned the Overall Champion School. Thanks to our coaches Mr Hume, Mr Egan, Mrs Olding, Mr Chapman, Mr McDonough, Mr Brimstone, Mr James and Mr See Kee for your work coaching the teams this season.

Mountain Biking
Mountain biking was introduced to Wednesday sport rotations this semester. The boys participated in skill building and endurance training. Skills focused on cornering, bike position, "pumping", etc. Each term, the boys served their local mountain bike trails by devoting a session to maintaining the trails. We look forward to continuing this unique sport in our Wednesday sport selections in 2024.
