Year 6 News

It has been a busy start to Term 4 in Year 6!  We have been learning new content in Reading, Writing, Maths and Inquiry and we have also been working very hard on our production!

In Reading, we have continued focusing on our whole class novel ‘Refugee,’ and learning about the historical events that have influenced the story line and setting of this text.  We have also learnt how to ask and answer comprehension questions related to the text and will be beginning to write written responses to prompts that use prior knowledge and text clues from the text.

In Writing, we have just started our new genre of discussion writing.  As this was introduced at the beginning of the term, we have spent some time unpacking the text structure and language features included to make discussion writing more interesting for a reader.  We have also created a plan by researching for and against arguments for a topic and added facts and statistics to our plans in preparation for drafting later this week!

In Maths, we have consolidated our understanding of multiplication facts through learning how to multiply decimals by whole numbers.  We have also been learning about angles and missing values in right angles and on straight lines.

Our personal highlight has been the time we have dedicated to practicing our production and watching it come to life!  Hours of time has been spent to remember our lines, the cohort dance and organising costumes.  We have also been working on using expression and giving eye contact to the audience when performing. We really hope you enjoyed the show as much as we enjoyed putting it together with support from our teachers!
