Religious Education

ReligionUnit: Christian Leadership

Students will explore the leadership styles of major Biblical characters and apply those leadership skills in a modern day context.

 

Unit: Solidarity, Service and Justice

Students explore Christian Solidarity, Service and Justice within a global context'. They will explore Jesus’ commitment to these values and how we continue his work today.

Literacy

Reading

This term in Reading we are focusing on applying comprehension strategies to achieve a deeper understanding of texts.

  • Fact and Opinion
  • Bias and Prejudice

Writing

In Writing we are continuing our focus on the structure and language features of Persuasive texts including persuasive devices and Poetry including various styles including Acrostic, Haiku, limerick, Kenning, etc.

 

Grammar

  • High modality verbs and adverbs 
  • Quotation marks
  • Noun groups
  • Compound and complex sentences
  • Idioms, hyperboles, alliteration, similes etc.

 

Vocabulary development

  • Continue Word of the day
  • dictionary skills and word study tasks involving signal words in reading

 

Proof reading skills 

Continue using editing task cards, dictation and personal writing pieces to apply correct spelling, grammar and punctuation

Speaking and listening

We are continuing to develop social interactions during class discussions. Eg:sharing responses and expressing a point of view.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, the students will explore Forces and Functions to create a working balloon-car. During the building of the car, they will explore different forces which help and hinder the car’s success and apply appropriate problem-solving skills to maximise the positives and minimise the negatives. They will also explore both the design and manufacturing process as they build the car.

 

Coding

Using different coding processes, the students will create simple programs for practical use whilst developing their coding skills. 

The Resilience Project

This term we are using the Resilience Project to build our understanding of gratitude, emotional literacy, empathy and mindfulness.
