Religious Education
Students will explore prayer as a way of communicating with God.
Students will explore the questions:
What is prayer about?
What kinds of prayer help you to listen to God?
Students will develop an understanding of the concepts:
- Friends listen to each other.
- Prayer is about listening to and building a friendship with God the Father, with God’s Son Jesus Christ, and with the Holy Spirit.
- People can build a friendship with God through formal prayer and personal prayer.
- There are many forms of personal prayer.
- to love one another
Students will learn about Advent People in the Old Testament and how they waited for their Messiah.
Students will explore the questions:
Who are Advent people?
How can Christians prepare for Christmas?
What does Christmas mean to me?
Students will develop an understanding of the concepts:
- The people of Israel waited for the Prince of Peace to bring them into a new friendship with God and with others.
- The Christmas story reveals the coming of the Prince of Peace to the world.
- For peace in the world people need to share what they have, respect the rights and dignity of each person and to be fair and just.
- Jesus' birth makes a difference to the world and Christians celebrate this at Christmas.
Literacy
Reading and Viewing
Students will be participating in reading group rotations. Each rotation will consist of a focus: grammar, spelling/phonics, comprehension, vocabulary development and oral fluency. Students will rotate through focus activities to experience learning in each element of reading on a weekly basis.
COMPREHENSION
Reading comprehension strategies include: making connections, questioning, monitoring, predicting, visualising, summarising, main idea and cause and effect.

Writing
Throughout this semester, children will be focusing on Poetry and Creative Writing. Students will learn about each genre's planning and construction. They will enhance their pieces through conference work that will focus on idea formation, text structure, grammar, editing and presenting.
Speaking & Listening
Students will share their work and ideas during group presentations. Students will focus on using appropriate volume, pitch, pace and tone.
Mathematics
Multiplication & Division
-Students will learn to apply various strategies to multiply and divide numbers for one by two digit equations e.g. 2x34.
-Students will practice instant recall of multiplication facts two, three, five and ten and their related division facts.
-Students will learn about the inverse relationship between multiplication and division.
Addition & /Subtraction
-Students will learn about Addition & Subtraction strategies.
-Students will learn about the inverse relationship between Addition & Subtraction.
Location and Transformation
- Grid Maps and Coordinates
- Students will create grid maps of the classroom and playground

Inquiry
The students will be engaged in the practical application of physics and programming. They will learn how forces can be exerted on one object by another as they design and build a balloon-powered car. The students will learn how to create simple programs using Scratch. They will create their own computer application and provide feedback to their classmates about their creations.
Investigation:

Wellbeing
This term students will be participating in the Resilience Project. During the wellbeing unit students will learn about three key pillars proven to cultivate positive emotion; Gratitude, Empathy, and Mindfulness (GEM).
Students will be provided with emotionally engaging learning opportunities to develop practical wellbeing strategies and build resilience.
