Around the Classes - Year 2

School Arrivals
To avoid disruptions to student’s learning could you please ensure your child is at school on time. The school gates open each morning at 8.25am.
Religious Education
In Term 4, students will continue learning about and preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. They will unpack parables of the bible about forgiveness and healing. Students will learn about the season of Advent and ways in which we prepare for the celebration of the birth of Jesus at Christmas.
Literacy
Students will participate in a variety of activities that will develop their knowledge, understanding and skills in listening, reading, viewing, speaking, writing and creating.
Reading
In Reading, students will participate in a variety of activities to meet their needs including:
- Reading orally with fluency and expression
- Independent and group reading
- Re-reading and summarising texts
- Developing reading comprehension skills, such as: making connections between texts and identifying the author's purpose.
Writing
In writing students will participate in a variety of activities to meet their needs including:
- Weekly spelling sound (SMART Spelling)
- Handwriting focusing on correct letter formation and positioning
- Editing skills
Speaking and listening
Through a variety of activities such as: oral responses in class, roleplay and oral presentations students will further develop the following skills:
- Audible voice
- Clear articulation
- Confident presentation
- Focused listening
- Questioning
Mathematics
In Mathematics, students will develop an understanding of mathematical concepts and fluency with processes. Students will compare and order objects based on various units of measurement. They will be given opportunities to pose questions, solve problems and reason in Number and Algebra and Measurement and Geometry.

Inquiry
Students will learn scientific knowledge and skills through hands-on exploration and experimentation with design and technology. They will investigate the sources of light and the causes of shadows. Students will develop puppets and use sounds and shadows to help tell a story.
The Resilience Project
Students will continue to participate in lessons with detailed instructions, resources and learning intentions and a focus on one of The Resilience Project key pillars of Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness and Emotional Literacy each week.
