To avoid disruptions to student’s learning could you please ensure your child is at school on time. The school gates open each morning at 8.25am.

Religious Education

Creation 

In the unit ‘The World Around Us’, students explore the goodness and beauty of God’s creation. Prayers and psalms of praise for creation and a commitment to care for it are introduced as ways of responding to this gift. 

 

God is with us- Advent and Christmas 

Students learn about the season of Advent and Christmas. They explore the concepts of waiting and the joyful anticipation of the birth of Jesus Christ. The Christmas story is told through the stories of the Annunciation, the Nativity, and the visit of the shepherds. 

Literacy

The children will continue to be immersed in daily modeling of reading and writing strategies.They will experience opportunities to practise these skills through learning experiences and activities.

 

Reading

  • revision of the alphabet letters and phonics that contain digraphs and trigraphs (SMART spelling)
  • identify the initial, medial and final sounds in words 
  • use comprehension strategies such as making connections, predicting, visualising, sequencing and questioning. 
  • introduction of spelling rules

Writing 

  • write and correctly spell SMART spelling words 
  • use simple punctuation such as full stops, capital letters, exclamation marks and question marks 
  • create simple written texts in the genres of recount, persuasive and narrative writing 
  • read their own written text aloud to the teacher and others 
  • use descriptive language (adjectives) 

Speaking and Listening 

  • use voice appropriately for Chit Chat and group work 
  • learn how to communicate with others through role play 

Mathematics

Measurement and Geometry 

  • introduce students to o'clock time on analogue and digital clocks 
  • revision of the lengths of objects by using language such as longer and shorter 
  • revision of objects that are full or empty, heavy or light 
  • revision of the days of the week to events 

Number 

  • revision of counting and the ordering of numbers using tactile materials such as bundles of icypole sticks and counters etc. 
  • revision of Addition using counting on, using number lines and finding the total with the aid of concrete materials 
  • revision of Subtraction using the strategies of counting back on a number line, take away and finding the difference 
  • solving worded number stories using tactile materials  
  • identify coins and notes 
  • model simple sharing problems

Statistics and Probability 

  • answer simple true/false statements 
  • experience events with likely and unlikely outcomes using the terms, probably, certainly, impossible, likely and unlikely 

Inquiry

The Bridge and Beyond

Students will explore the properties of various materials. They will experiment with building techniques as they make an aluminium foil boat and a bridge. The students will  present what they have made to the class.
