Primary School

We invite parents, grandparents, carers and/or significant others to join us for our annual Easter Celebrations on Thursday 28 March (last day of Term). We will start with an Easter Bonnet Parade on the Undercover Basketball court at 9:00am and we encourage all students to get creative and come to school wearing their personalised Easter Bonnet. At the conclusion of the parade, parents are invited to join their kids for Easter craft activities in the classroom. Finally, all visitors are invited to join the P&F for coffee/tea and hot cross buns in front of the Primary Office. We look forward to a great morning and the opportunity to connect with families.

Individual Student Achievements

Many of our Primary students are achieving amazing things in their outside of school activities and whilst there are many more examples, in this newsletter we are celebrating some great sporting achievements.

Eli Kingma - Tennis

“When I went to the Sydney Tennis Tournament, I represented Riverina Association Schools. I had a great time there, getting to have a hit with one of the other players that was representing our team as well. We got into our groups to play for the day and I won my group, beating one of the best players in Sydney, it was a VERY tough competition. I won my group and made it to the final playoffs, and I lost to a very good player. Overall, I had a great day and it was super fun. I will be considering entering the tennis team in high school and trying to make it on the NSW State Team”.

Sophie Millar - Football

At the beginning of March, Sophie Millar showcased her passion and skills when trying out for the Southern Inlander Girls Football Team in Wagga Wagga. Here she participated in skill work and match styled sessions, along with 80 other students from around the Southern NSW area. Sophie was 1 of the 20 students selected to represent the Southern Inlander Football Team in May, aiming for a shot in the NSW State Team selection process. An amazing effort Sophie, well done, what a "goal"!

Winnie Whipp - Equestrian

Congratulations to Winnie on her outstanding achievements at the Bamawm Extension Gymkhana! Her hard work and dedication to her events paid off, with Winnie taking home a handful of ribbons as well as Champion and Reserve Champion in some categories. A gymkhana is a horse show where riders compete in a variety of events with their horses such as, riding their horses, leading and presenting their horses to judges.

Addison Coburn - Gymnastics

Congratulations to Addison for qualifying for the Australian National Championships on the Victorian Team for Tumbling Level 5. Addison will represent Palmer’s Gym as part of the Victorian team at the National Titles in Queensland in May. This is a wonderful achievement considering that Level 5 is only two levels below the international level - Level 7. Good luck Addison!

Cleo Haw - Athletics

We would like to congratulate Cleo on being named the Junior Club Champion for the Echuca Moama Little Athletics Centre who held their annual Presentation Night last Friday. Cleo’s overall performance throughout the season was consistent and it was no surprise to anyone in attendance that she was crowned the Under 11’s Age Champion and Personal Best Champion.

Isabelle Barnett - Athletics

Congratulations to Isabelle for winning a gold medal in discus and a silver medal for shot-put in the Under 12’s girls MC at the Victorian Little Athletics State Championships. We are incredibly proud of Isabelle for this effort considering she not only competed against many other athletes but there was extreme hot weather too.

Kinder Parent Reading Information Night and Workshops

At Moama Anglican Grammar, we recognise the valuable part parents play in helping their child learn to read. To help close the gap between reading at home and at school, an information session and two practical workshops were held. We had a wonderful turnout for our Kinder Reading Information Night last Wednesday. Mrs Reid and Mrs Cowin took parents through the theory behind our approach to teaching reading at school, and how this is supported by students completing their home readers each night.

This information session was followed up by the Kinder Reading Workshops on Thursday this week. At these workshops, the Kinder teachers introduced parents to the style of texts that their children would be taking home and walked them through how to use the various texts. The workshops also provided a practical demonstration through videos of how to support children when reading at home. Making the reading experience positive and enjoyable is key! We would like to thank all of our families who were able to attend these sessions. Teaching your child to read is a job we share together.

Primary Assembly

On Friday 15 March, the Primary School community connected at the final Primary Assembly for Term 1. I would like to congratulate Darcy Knowles-Mulholland and Issy Jennings, two of our Year 6 School Leaders, for confidently running the Assembly. We enjoyed beautiful performances from William Eacott who played ‘Contra Flow’ on piano and Charlie Palmer who performed ‘Long, Long Ago’ on Violin. The Year 6 Year Level performance included a video from the MAG News Studio where students put a creative spotlight on the exciting Brass Woodwind Program.

Miss Briggs shared the exciting news about the possible Equestrian Program and Ms Height invited students from Years 4-6 to join the Resource Committee. Mrs Pedrana shared the exciting upcoming events in the calendar for the remainder of this term, as well as the start of Term 2.

We look forward to our next Assembly on Friday 26 April when the Year 4 students will perform for us. Congratulations to the students below who received a Core Value Award for consistently displaying one or more of the School’s Core Values and Motto. Keep up the great work!

Stage 1 Assembly

On Wednesday, Stage 1 held their Assembly. Miss Kew and 1A hosted the assembly and presented their Orange Origami love hearts for Harmony Day. Students explained that the day is a chance to celebrate our diversity and consider the many benefits we gain from having culturally and linguistically diverse communities. Stage 1 then presented their ‘Stars of the Weeks’ to the worthy winners. Mr Moon pretended that he organised a plane flyover for the assembly (really it was just a coincidence that a plane flew over!). There were plenty of smiles and laughter throughout the Assembly. The ‘Stars of the Week’ in Year 1 and Year 2 were:

Art Room Spotlight

In Year 6, students have been exploring self-expression by creating self-portraits entirely out of the letters of their names. Armed with fine liner pens, they investigated the art of adding shadows, creating highlights and the use of directional lines to bring depth and realism to their drawings. Through this innovative project, students not only refined their technical abilities but also discovered new avenues for personal expression and creativity in their artwork.

Primary Peer Support

Peer support is a wonderful opportunity for all Year 6 students to push beyond their comfort zone and lead the younger students in a connected learning task. Not only is it a chance for the students to lead, but it also requires them to collaborate effectively with their Year 6 peers to plan and facilitate the learning objective. The focus for this term’s Peer Support session was Harmony Day.

Whilst Harmony Week is celebrated on Thursday 21 March, our Primary students celebrated Harmony Day on Friday 22 March to allow for the whole Primary School community to come together. Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. Harmony Day is about including, respecting and appreciating the stories, traditions and cultures of all people who call Australia home.

Our Year 6 students led an informative craft session for our Primary students to promote the messages of Harmony Day and it provided a great opportunity for our students to connect with other year levels across the school.

Year 6 LifeChanger Program

On Monday 25 March, our Year 6 students will be involved in the LifeChanger Incursion Building Meaningful Connections: Navigating Friendships. This workshop focuses on exploring the characteristics of strong friendships, recognising that friendships can change and evolve over time, and emphasising the importance of developing effective communication skills. Participants will learn how to form new friendships, navigate online friendships, and understand how different types of friendships can shape their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of the importance of effective communication in cultivating and maintaining positive relationships with their friends.
