As the end of Term 1 quickly approaches, I can reflect on the success of our fabulous new Wellbeing Space for students. Wellbeing is linked to happiness and life satisfaction and as such, we are now well resourced to cater for the dynamic and diverse needs of students. This space is supported by counsellors and staff assigned to support students' emotional and social capabilities. We also have a weekly Connect lesson for Years 7 to 10.

Connect allows students to make important interpersonal connections to build community through interactions with each other, staff, guest speakers and regular assemblies. Topics focus on the development of student wellbeing and are designed to build resilience and increase student engagement and motivation through the exploration of various learning activities and discussions. Other aspects of Connect include an exploration of career options and a focus on building our school expectations of respect, responsibility and kindness.

Our regular Connect Assembly for Years 7 to 10 have been a highlight of the year, as we corporately celebrate student achievements and commendations. Commendations are put forward by individual teachers and we read all these names in assemblies. One student per year level is then randomly chosen to have lunch with me.

This has been a great way for me to get to know students as we share sausage rolls or sushi together.
