Principal's News

 Truth, Love, Service

We acknowledge the Taungurung people,  the traditional custodians of this land and we pay our respect to their elders past, present and emerging.

Dear Families,

Welcome to Term 2.

Another busy term ahead.

We started the term yesterday with a liturgy about Easter Sunday, which occured on the first Sunday of our school holidays. All children and staff gathered together in the Mercy centre for another moving and very reverent presentation from our Year 6 Leaders, who were wonderful in the way they presented on the last day of school last term, and again this morning.

We have a number of pupil free days this term.  Please make sure the dates are in your diaries.  TheirCare have a program available if parents require this service.  Dates are on the Calendar Page of the newsletter.

We will have a change to the way we deliver Classroom Communication to families each fortnight.  We are always trying to find a balance for families and for teachers.  Some say it is too much, while others would like more.  This term we are trialling Classroom Communication being delivered to your inboxes in Week 4 and Week 8.  The teachers put an enormous amount of time into the publication each fortnight, we will continue to communicate but not as frequently, but when we do, it will be comprehensive and an insight into what is happening in the children's classrooms.  Fortnightly newsletters will continue (week 1, 3, 5, 7, 9,11) as well as our Celebrations of Learning, Assemblies and Parent Teacher Meetings in Term 1 and 3. Parents are always welcome in classrooms before and after school to see what is happening.

We always love to see parents helping in classrooms and on excursions, a reminder that all parents must have a Working With Children Check before they are able to do so.  This is another aspect of legislation around Child Safety which all schools must follow.

If you have a child starting in Foundation in 2025 or know of any families who are considering our school, I would encourage you to ask Bek in the office for an enrolment form.  To date we have 19 enrolments.  Once we have received your enrolment form, we will send letters of acceptance in May.

There is so much happening in our world that brings immense sadness and at times horror as we watch events unfold on our televisions and on social media.  Our news is instant and often very graphic and very violent. It is important to be mindful of this and perhaps switch off a TV or monitor and to make sure we know what children are looking at on Social Media.

Due to a number of pupil free days and other activities we will not keep to our regular schedule for Assembly this term, as we don't want to miss them.  We will let you know through a general email after we confirm the dates of when Assemblies will be and what Year Level will be presenting.

I would like to congratulate Charlie Leech and her pony Sunshine on their fabulous results at the State Inter-school Equestrian Championships that were held over the holidays. Charlie represents St John's and had a brilliant result over the 5 day competition as overall runner up, competing against 128 primary school children as well as placing in Sporting Horse and Working Hunter show classes. Charlie was so thrilled with herself and Sunshine and looks super happy and proud on the podium.  Well done Charlie and thank you for representing St John's so admirably.

Another reminder that children should not be at school prior to 8:30am.

Until next fortnight
