1st XVIII EIS Premiers & Champions, 1982

Photographed here is the history-making 1st XVIII Mazenod football team of 1982, which secured the first Eastern Independent Schools (EIS) Premiership  pennant for the college at that level.

Recently, Old Collegian Ken Adams (1978-83) spoke of Rector, Fr Macintosh’s enthusiasm for Australian Rules football. The team coach and PE teacher Mick (Michael) Brown, later became CEO at Hawthorn and Deputy CEO of Cricket Australia. Ken played in this winning team as a Year 11 student and went on to captain the team in 1983.

He reflects, “I’d always played as a forward until Mick got to me and switched me to full-back, and there were some pretty good players under Mick’s watch then - kids like Robbie Prosser and Silvio Foschini who both ended up playing for Sydney – at a time when we were beginning to become quite a force.”
