P.A.R.T.Y. On Program

Tue 23 Apr 2024 5:30 PM - 8:00 PM

Alfred Innovation & Education Hub, 75 Commercial Road, Melb, 3004

Do you have a young person in your life aged between 16 and 25?

Would they benefit from more knowledge of the potential consequences of taking risks?

Do they have the perception that “it won’t happen to me”?

Due to high demand The Alfred’s P.A.R.T.Y. (Prevent Alcohol and Risk- Related Trauma in Youth) program are presenting an event on Tuesday 23rd April so that older youth, their families and friends can be better informed about the consequences of risk-taking behaviour.

This 2.5-hour program sponsored by The Highland Foundation will run from 5:30pm to 8:00pm with a combination of video, demonstrations, and live presentations with Alfred Health clinicians, first responders, allied Health and a past Alfred trauma patient.

The program operates on the principle of proactive education, providing participants with real-life scenarios and interactive experiences that underscore the importance of safety, responsible decision-making, and the consequences of risky behaviours. By addressing issues such as impaired driving, substance abuse, and injury prevention head-on, we strive to educate young Victorians to make positive choices and avoid potentially life-threatening situations.

Supporting Rosies through the Container Deposit Scheme

As you would be aware Mazenod, as an Oblate College, supports the missionary work of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate. One of the social outreaches of the Oblates is Rosies, a street mission that is run by the Oblate Youth Ministry. Each Wednesday and Friday night a team of supporters and volunteers operate a tea and coffee van that offers support, hospitality, and friendship to those who may struggle. Rosies is particularly supported by our Year 12 cohort who assist with serving tea and coffee and become that 'listening ear' to the marginalised and homeless of Melbourne. Rosies receives no government support and relies upon donations to continue its valuable work. Recently Rosies has registered with the Container Deposit Scheme, and we can support Rosies by collecting cans and bottles and depositing them in the nearest RETURN IT facility and nominating any monies collected to be donated to Rosies through the use of this code:

 C2000010795

Ten cents a can or bottle may not seem much, but collectively we can ensure that Rosies can continue supporting those who face difficulties in life or are on the street. Store the code in your phone and use it when you deposit any containers. The closest RETURN IT depot to the College is at 14 Enterprise Crt Mulgrave, which is just off Wellington Rd and extremely close to the College. Shortly, Mazenod will have some dedicated bins for student use and all profits will be directed towards this Oblate social justice program.  This is an opportunity to practically assist in the mission of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate as they seek to fulfil St Eugene de Mazenod’s vision.
