Saskia’s Portrait Selected as Lester Youth Prize Finalist

The Arts Department is thrilled to share that Saskia Catalan, a talented Year 10 student, has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious Lester Youth Prize with her incredible self portrait. Out of over 200 entries nationwide, only 30 portraits were selected for this prestigious exhibition. Saskia’s self portrait was completed when she was in Year 9 as part of the Traditional Drawing elective. It is currently on display in the CPA foyer, on the wooden wall beside Wanju Cafe.

The Lester Prize for Portraiture's Youth Awards exhibition runs from Friday 12 April to Sunday 14 July at WA Museum Boola Bardip. This prestigious event celebrates the finest emerging artists in Australia, and Saskia’s inclusion among the finalists is testament to her incredible talent.

Visual Arts Students’ Stationary Book Designs

Late last year four talented ASC Visual Arts students were commissioned by David Bagworth at The Academic Group to design covers for exercise books. The goal was to make these books more visually appealing to the students who use them.

Year 11 students Andy Zhou, Kat Savanyo and Kim Stone, and Year 12 student Taryn Lee joined forces to co-design the captivating ‘Tailsend’ underwater artwork. Additionally, Year 10 student Ash Schipper’s Pacman-City inspired digital photography was chosen for the second exercise book.

The students approached this paid opportunity with professionalism and dedication, resulting in stunning designs that will undoubtedly captivate their peers.

Congratulations Taryn, Andy, Kat, Kim and Ash!
