Principals Report

Dear Berwick Chase Primary School Community,

As your Principal, I am deeply committed to fostering a welcoming and inclusive environment here at the 'Chase'. It is with concern that I address an issue that has arisen recently—a noticeable increase in students using inappropriate and hurtful language in the playground.

At Berwick Chase, one of our proudest achievements has been the nurturing of a warm and inclusive culture where every student feels valued and respected. However, the recent spike in harmful language usage is concerning as it undermines the very fabric of our community.

Verbal abuse, even in its seemingly minor forms, can have significant long-term effects. It diminishes the sense of safety and security among students and can severely damage relationships. Research articles underline the detrimental impact of verbal abuse on mental health and overall well-being, highlighting the urgency of addressing this issue.

As a school, we must refocus our efforts on reinforcing positive behavior and communication skills among our students. By promoting empathy, respect, and understanding, we can create a safer and more nurturing environment where all members of our community can thrive.

Let us work together, students, staff, and parents alike, to uphold the values of kindness and compassion that define Berwick Chase Primary School.

Warm regards,

Chris Short

Principal
