HELLO FROM GRADE 3 /4

MS K AND MRS K

INQUIRY

To continue our theme of getting to know each other this term we did an Inquiry Research Project on something that we were interested in but did not know a lot about.

We spent our Inquiry learning time developing the skills of research, note taking, organising and presenting information. We were able to choose how we wanted to present our information to the class. Some of us did a poster while others did a PowerPoint or a diorama.

We learnt a lot about each others interests and a lot about the thing that we were researching.

Ryda learnt that the Burj Khalifa is the tallest building in the world.

Zali and Mila were surprised to learn that the 'Day of the Dead' was celebrated in Latin America as well as Mexico.

Manny and Eltonwere astounded when they found out that the Sydney Opera House had15,000 lightbulbs replaced annually.

Freyanow knows more about how leaves change colour and why.

Lillylearnt that the tallest tree in the world is the Coast Redwood tree.

Sagelearnt that Howard Carter is a famous archaeologist and that archaeology is very interesting.

Kennedy leant that the amethyst is the birthstone for February.

Tara and Hunterdiscovered that one of the most popular fish is the Clown fish.

Mia and Charlie were astounded to discover that there were so many kinds of butterflies.

Jet and Cooper now know that seals can have up to 17 pups.

Hazel and Anniewere fascinated to learn that you can work out the temperature by counting cricket's chirps.

Henilloved researching Dubai and learning how it became such a rich place.

Felix discovered that Corn dogs are actually hard to make.

                                                                     MATHS

In maths we have been working on place value. We have been learning to read, write, order and represent numbers. Understanding place value is very important because it is the foundation for so much that we do in maths. This week we used MAB blocks to help us represent different numbers and to help us understand more about Place Value.

For one of our lessons we had to build something with the blocks and then add the thousands, hundreds, tens and ones and write the number that we had made.

'It was a lot of fun', said Isaac

We have had a great term getting to know each other and working together.

We are looking forward to learning lots more in term 2.

We hope everyone has a great Easter and the best holiday.

 From everyone in room 2.
