BISSA Swimming and Diving Carnival

The annual BISSA swimming and diving carnival was a resounding success last Thursday, March 7th, with Kildare making a strong showing in the pool.

Swimmers from a variety of schools across the region competed in a range of individual and relay events, showcasing their talent and determination. The atmosphere was electric with cheers erupting from the stands as students battled it out for gold.

This year's carnival saw a record-breaking swim by Andre Labara. His impressive speed not only earned Andre gold in many events throughout the day but also secured the coveted title of Age Champion for the 14 year boys category. There were many other standout performances from Kildare athletes: Olivia Cecchini and Addison Pope both came second in their age champion rankings. Xavier Jones also had a successful day coming third overall in his age champion category. These students, as well as William Gaskin, all qualified for the NSWCCC carnival in Sydney.

Beyond the pool, our divers took center stage with equally impressive displays of grace and skill. Charlotte Seghers finished second in the Senior Girls division and Mikayla Wilson finished third. But Sam Seghers stole the show in the Senior Boys event, executing a series of flawless dives to claim victory.

A big congratulations to all the Kildare students who participated in the BISSA swimming and diving carnival.  Good luck to those students traveling to Sydney for the NSWCCC carnival.

PRESTON BUTCHER TOUCH FOOTBALL 2024

KCC started their Preston Butcher campaign against current cup holders, MDCC last Wednesday (6th March). The quick and skilled MDCC team was too strong for our underprepared girls and won 7 - 1. Experienced player, Shayla Watson scored our team’s only touchdown. On Monday 11th March, we played our second pool game against WWHS and although we started off quickly with the first try, WWHS defeated our team, 5 - 2  (Annie Willis and Jess Graham tries). This meant that KCC came third in  Pool A and so straight after the Wagga High game, we had to play MDCC again, this time in a semi-final. KCC played a strong and tough game and for much of the second half of this game, the score was MDCC 3- KCC 2. Unfortunately, we let in two late tries and the final score of 5-2 was not indicative of the intensity of the match. Zara Connolly and Brianna Elphick were our try scorers in that match.

Wednesday (13th March) saw KCC play Kooringal High School in the play-off for third/fourth with a position in Pool A 2025 up for grabs. Our KCC team was far too dominant for the KHS team and we won 9 - 3, maintaining our position in Pool A. Try scorers were Annie Willis (2), Jess Graham (2), Violet Paton (2) and Zara Connolly, Amelia Moon and Brianna Elphick all scoring a try each.  In the Grand Final game, MDCC defeated WWHS 4-2.

Well done girls, it was terrific to see our experienced players and younger players gel so well together. A big thank you to our captain, Annie Willis on her efforts in leading this 2024 team in her final year! Thanks to our Year 12 girls who filled in for Game 1. Thank you, also to our support crew of  Holly Williams, Mrs Sharp and Mrs Arentz.

Dio Soccer Gala Day

On the 12th of March the KCC open soccer teams competed at the Wagga Wagga Diocesan Soccer gala day. From this, players were selected in the Southern Country teams to play at the CCC Championships in Bathurst.

The boys played in 4 extremely close games and came away with 3rd. They lost two games against Mater Dei Catholic College and Marian Catholic College, both 0-2, a 0-0 draw against Xavier Catholic College and 1-0 win against St Francis. Every player demonstrated great sportsmanship and represented KCC well. Congratulations to Ethan, Dinosh, Zac and Aiden who were all selected in the Southern Country team. Ben was also selected as a shadow player.

The girls team also did well in exceptionally difficult circumstances. By the end of the day the girls had played a cumulative 100 mins of football, with the final game being played in 37 degree heat. The girls were prepared for the day and supported each other with water and sunscreen, not to mention the supportive team talk they shared on the day. After winning three out of four of the round robin games, we faced Marion Catholic College in the final. Unfortunately after an evenly fought first half, Marion ran away with the second. But a huge congratulations go to all players, especially those in Year 9 who played in the open team. Amelia, Ella, Elizabeth and Grace have all been asked to go and trial at the next level.
