Year 9

Community Day 2024

“I learnt how to help others and I learnt more about myself.” (Year 9 student).

Enlighten Education’s evidence-based and award-winning workshops travelled to Kildare Catholic College to work with Year 9 students on Monday, March 4, 2024. Enlighten’s presenters, Danni and Jack encourage teenagers to find their voice, build connection with their cohort and their school, build agency for themselves and develop positive personal wellbeing behaviours.

Year 9 students attended separate workshops for female students led by Danni, and male students led by Jack. Both programs use storytelling to engage and build trust with their audiences. Enlighten aimed to empower girls to find their voice, build connection with each other and their school, build agency for themselves and develop positive personal wellbeing behaviours.

Similarly, Goodfellas, the boys workshop, aimed to increase the skills of participants to connect and build strong relationships, advocate for themselves and their peers and become a force for good in their school and the wider community.

Students provided a great deal of positive feedback on the Community Day. Around 60% of students rated the day as excellent and another 20% as very good. Some of the Year 9 students' feedback is included below.

“Taught us boys how to behave like men and how to respect others.”

“Taught us to fight bias and stereotypes.”

“I enjoyed Danni's personality and storytelling. She also had an ability to make tough topics seem not as scary but still taught us what we needed to know about them.”

Thanks to Trudi Karhu, Bronte Bacash, Bindi Belling, Rachel Smith, Garry Steman, Bryce Thomas, Fraser Yates, Jody Siegwalt, Trina Rhynehart, Lance Voigt and Matt Conn for their support in making this day possible.
