Footy Tipping Competition

The first full round of fixtures is now complete, but some teams have played two games, some have played one game, and two teams get the bye this week. It’s all a bit confusing if you ask me.

Anyway, Round One had several interesting games and congratulations go out to one of our new members, Cherie Fry, who was the only person who managed to pick all nine winners. Congratulations Cherie on being the first person to win the weekly prize of $50.  13 other members will be pretty happy with themselves having picked eight winners. With regard to the overall leaderboard, not surprisingly Cherie is leading the way on 12 winners with six people having picked 11 winners, but as all coaches will tell you it’s a bit too early to get carried away.

St Kilda v Collingwood

Collingwood has got off to a slow start but you would expect them to register their first win of the season. That said, St Kilda certainly took it to Geelong and won’t be an easy kill;

Adelaide v Geelong

A difficult game to pick with a home-ground advantage likely to sway a few people.  Adelaide fought back well in the last quarter against Gold Coast but up until that point had been very poor and Geelong did just enough to beat St Kilda.  It was good to see P Dangerfield back to his very best;

North Melbourne v Fremantle

North will fancy their chances of registering their first win of the season. Fremantle recorded a great win but will have to make a minimum of three changes. These are the type of games that historically Fremantle find a way of losing;

Hawthorn v Melbourne

Can’t see anything other than a Melbourne win;

Sydney v Essendon

Essendon has won one of the last ten games played between these sides at the SCG;

Western Bulldogs v Gold Coast

This game is being played in Ballarat which certainly reduces the home ground advantage. A bit of a test for both sides;

Richmond v Port Adelaide

I guess Port did what they needed to against the Eagles. Richmond are no world beaters but will be a much sterner test for Port; and

West Coast v GWS

The Eagles come up against the early season Premiership favourites. Surely only complacency can prevent GWS from winning this game comfortably.

Brisbane and Carlton have the Bye.

Finally, thanks again to all those people (about 70% of you) who have paid their entry fee ($50), for those yet to do so, details are provided below. If payment can be made ASAP so that I don’t have to chase people up that would be much appreciated.

1: If you fail to enter any tips for the round you will be allocated all away teams but the maximum default score for the round will be capped at 5; and

2: If you don’t submit a tip (or a margin) for the nominated game of the week you will be allocated the away team and a margin of zero.

Good Luck and thanks for the support.

Mazenod Old Boys Committee

Dear Old Boy Dads,

The Old Boys committee is after Old Boys who would be interested in joining them. The committee meets about 5 times a year and involves assisting a couple of times a year with Old Boy events.

The MOB is run by a committee of volunteers. They meet regularly throughout the year to plan and run events, take part in community events, as well as approve bursaries or provide financial assistance to students and members.

The MOB is involved with supporting the school through things such as:

  • Sponsor Mazenod awards (Junior Sportsman Of The Year, Presentation Night awards, some subject awards).
  • Donate to school for equipment such as music or sporting programs.
  • Guest speakers.
  • Provide Yr 12 BBQs.
  • Provide bursaries to students for extra-curricular activities.
  • Old Boy Basketball, Hockey and Footy matches.
  • MOB Golf Day.
  • MOB Footy tipping.

If you are interested or wish to come along to a meeting, please contact the MOB Liaison officer: logan.jeremy@mazenod.wa.edu.au
