🎓Careers

What’s Happening in Careers?

I attended the ECU Innovators and Educators Day on Friday 15 March. It was interesting to explore the Joondalup campus. We had some great presentations from very passionate and qualified Learning Area Leads in Business/Law, WAAPA and Humanities. These three areas are moving to the ECU City campus when it opens to students in 2026. It sounds like this campus will be very vibrant with fabulous opportunities for connections within disciplines. A few take aways for me:

  • It took me about 45 minutes to get to campus but parking was free and plentiful. I was in my building within minutes of leaving my car.
  • It’s a smaller university and has a nice feel. The staff know the students.
  • The Business school is AACSB Accredited, which is an Internationally recognised accreditation. It is in fact in the top 6% of Business schools in the world, and as there are more than 25k business schools in the world, this figure is quite significant.

They were also ranked as #1 for Quality in WA and #2 in Australia by the Financial Review in 2023. They have a paid internship with IBM as part of their degree.

  • The Engineering facilities are new and very comparable to those at larger universities. The Engineering school is much smaller and all Engineering disciplines are in one building.
  • The new sonography course is a great option for those considering a job in Health Sciences.

Year 10

The Year 10 students spent some time considering who they are, the experiences that have shaped them and what their vision of the future looks like. They were encouraged to think broadly about where they see themselves in the future and then consider the sort of goals they need to set to get there.

Year 11

It will have been a busy end of term for the Year 11 group. We hope that the break comes at a good time for them to rest and reset as they continue on their pathway in Term 2.

Year 12

The Year 12 group split into university-bound and General/VET groups for our last session. The university-bound students had a presentation from Curtin and Notre Dame about University life, their courses and entry options.

The General/VET group had a presentation from Alvin Dupont about applying for apprenticeships and received valuable insights into the process and opportunities available.

We have been very busy conducting pathway discussions with our Year 12s. We have spoken to most of the boys now and it’s been really interesting looking into all of the courses that the boys are considering! Ask your son if they have had a conversation with Ms Eaton or Mrs Johnson yet and ask them about what they are considering.

Portal for Careers

A reminder that we have our new portal for Careers set up on SEQTA. It is updated regularly with news and opportunities and is a great resource. We hope that it helps people to connect with relevant information.

TISC

TISC will open on 1 May.

Early Offers will start after the Semester One exams and most offers are conditional on meeting requirements. These will be laid out in their offer letters.

Offers will be sent out once per month from July to December.

We have TISC coming to present on 7 May and I will run another session with the boys on completing their preferences on 14 May.

If they are intending to apply for university, they will need to apply through TISC. Registration is online and a fee of $92 is payable before they can set up their preferences. These preferences can be changed as many times as they like before the offers round.

Offers will be out before Christmas.

University Information

The universities have all listed their Open Days – this weekend is Murdoch University on Saturday and Curtin Open Day on Sunday. Register using these links and plan your day so you can make the most of the offerings. It is really important that the boys get on campus and ask lots of questions before they make final decisions.

Medicine and Dentistry

Students hoping to study Medicine at the Undergraduate level through Curtin in the Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery will need to register for the UCAT and Casper tests. I recommend sitting these early before life gets very busy.

The Careers Department

Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 have access to The Careers Department. There is a huge wealth of information on this site, where students can explore industries in depth to find out more about the careers and industries they are interested in. It also has a resume builder, digital portfolio, virtual work experience, scholarship finder, job finder and micro-credentialing opportunities. So much to explore!

As parents, you also have access to these resources. Your account will be linked to your son’s account, allowing you to explore together.

There are two ways to connect to your son’s account.

1. Students can invite their parents from their 'Profile' > 'Your account' > scroll to the bottom of this page and add their parent's email address.

2. Go to the login page and follow the prompts to set up an account. Once inside, you will be directed to explore the site and link to your child's account. Your child should already have an active student account, so you will not need to pay for the platform. If he hasn’t registered, do this first. You will need to enter the correct email address according to your son’s account and your son will need to accept the connection.
