Art

We have had a busy half of term in art. The 4/5/6’s have continued working on their string art work each week and they look amazing. They have put the artwork in a made frame and it makes their incredible work stand out. We have looked at the work of Jen Stark and her drip drawings and where some of them have been displayed in different places. Students then had a go at creating their own drip drawings creating their own drip shape and colouring it in, in a pattern of their choice. The students made comments about how good each others work was and were very impressed with what they created, as was I. They have also worked on watercolour and pattern exploration. We used washi tape to create different shapes on a piece of paper and painted the shapes with watercolour. Once the paint had dried the students pulled off the tape and the students decorated the shapes with different patterns from nature. To complete this we looked at the work of Patricia Braune and her use of pattern work. The details students drew of nature was captured well in their work. A very impressive first half of the term.

The F/1/2’s began the term working on using crayons to draw and create images with. We used crayons and pushed very hard to colour the entire page with different crayon colours. Once we had done that we placed another piece of paper on top and drew different shapes. When pulling the paper off it allowed for it to print onto the piece of paper. The students reactions to this was incredible and they were so impressed with the printing work. Next we looked at using watercolours, to start with we practiced different techniques you can use with watercolours like wet on wet and dry on dry. This was allowing students to be familiar with different techniques to be able to paint and create a coral reef. Students painted blue for the ocean and yellow for the sand and then we painted some pieces of paper to create different coral. The following week students cut out coral shapes and pieced it altogether. The finished product looked amazing. This week we read one of the Book Week books called 'Market Day'. After reading the book we created our own special coin or medallion. We used air drying clay and students could design it in anyway they wanted. We will need to add a few finishing touches next week but they were very impressed with their work.
