Living with Strength and Kindliness
Last week we launched the student leadership positions for 2024. This time at St Joseph’s College is an important time of discernment and learning about what it means to be a servant leader in our community.
The Kildare Ministries Living Justice Living Peace Charter provides an anchor for our work in this space. The charter explains "The life and teachings of Jesus challenge us to be just and to live in peace. Living Justice Living Peace provides a road map for our mission and deepens the Kildare Ministries’ Vision, Mission and Values. Jesus is our centre; informing our decisions, guiding our actions and restoring our spirit. Jesus called for creative and revolutionary changes."
Whilst crafting these positions and inviting our students to apply, our current student leaders and staff offered insight into what it means to lead with courage. It was with a deep sense of pride that I was able to observe some of our current leaders share with our future leaders their journey thus far this year, outlining times they have let their light shine and allowed the little actions they have taken in their leadership roles to lead to growth and works of advocacy and support for those in need.
One such example has been the recent awareness and fundraising campaign driven by our student leaders and supported by our entire community towards raising household goods for the Brigidine Asylum Seekers Project. We are incredibly proud of the servant leadership they have shown and the wonderful skills and values they will take out into the world with them when they leave our gates.
