National Science Week: Innovation: Powering Future Industries

ANU student Isha in the video above shows you how to design, construct and test your own wind turbine. What you need: Paper cups, Paper straw, Wooden skewer, String Tape.

Today in Year 7 Science our students conducted an experiment provided by the Australian National University's STEM Boxes 2023 program for National Science Week.

Team Science @ our Senior School Expo

Our Science tables and staff, led by the Head of Science Josh Davies were very popular at our recent senior school expo.  Staff fielded many interested enquiries about their options for studying Science in Years 11 and 12 and future career options in the field.

We won a Science grant!

Our application for funding under the Charles Sturt University's 2023 Community University Partnerships (CUP) Grant program for Mt Beauty Secondary College Upgrade of science equipment was successful.  Thank you to valued staff member and science lab technician Sharon Lidden for leading this application.

The school received $1000 to spend on new science equipment.  We have purchased 4 new solid wooden ramps to replace the old wooden shelves we used to use as ramps (propped up with bricks or books), 4 new dynamic trolleys which can run seamlessly down ramps to measure acceleration at different inclines, and a new CO2 sensor to use in biology and chemistry experiments. The Wireless CO2 Sensor measures carbon dioxide gas levels and wirelessly streams data to computers or tablets.  Classes will be able to monitor CO2 levels during photosynthesis and respiration experiments, and a waterproof sleeve allows the sensor to be used to monitor CO2 levels in water.

Mount Beauty Secondary College would like to thank Charles Sturt University and the Community University Partnerships Grant which has allowed the school to upgrade some of our science equipment, as well as introducing new technology into our school courses.  These improvements will help engage students and experiment results will be improved overall with the use of high quality equipment.
