Principal's Report

Thank you

What a lovely morning it was last Friday at Gardenvale PS when we celebrated Father’s Day! The event was well supported by a large contingent of Gardenvale dads, mums, grandparents and special friends. Thank you to all of you for making the time to come along, it was a great morning! This special occasion would not have been possible without all the work of the Year 5 parent organising team. A big thank you to Kym Hayat for her coordination of the event. Thank you also to all the parents that chipped in and helped out on the morning.

I believe on Saturday Night, a fabulous time was had by many of our parents at the Wigs and Hats event, brilliantly organised by Henrietta Bird and Lyla Hennig, with the support of a number Year 4 parents! It is great for our parent community to have the opportunity to come together in a fun and relaxed environment.

Hats! Hats! Hats!

We ask all children to find their hats, make sure they are clearly named and have them at school to wear when they are at play or outdoors. Our school is a SunSmart school, and we have a policy that aims to protect the students and staff from the harmful effects of ultraviolet radiation. Hats are now to be worn when students are outside through until the end of April next year.

Congratulations

We are very proud of one of our Year 6 students, Felix, for being awarded the People's Choice Award at the Bayside Youth Awards 2023.  Felix was selected as a finalist for the Environment Award for initiating a project that responds to an environmental concern. Felix makes and sells gourmet smoked salt and then uses some of his profits to help plant trees.

Footy Day

Footy Day will be held on the last day of Term 3, Friday 15th September. Students are asked to dress up in their footy gear or sports team colours.  Students will participate in activities involving AFL football skills at the beginning of the school day.

If there are any parents that are available and able to help out with the footy skills rotations, for approximately 1 hour, could they please email the school at gardenvale.ps@education.vic.gov.au and indicate which campus they would like to volunteer at.  After recess the whole school will assemble and sing all of the clubs’ songs. Our Assembly will be held at the Senior Campus from 11.15am, parents are most welcome to attend!

Bert Hosking

Last week we heard of the sad passing of Bert Hosking.  Bert was the Principal of Gardenvale PS from 1977 to 1981. He spoke with great fondness of the school at our Centenary Assembly last November.  Bert Hosking was held in such high regard that one of our School Houses was and is named in his honour.

Second Hand Uniform Sale

The sale scheduled for this week will be cancelled because of inclement weather. Next one will be early in Term 4

Have a lovely week,

Janine
