Middle Learning Community

Dear Families,

We are thrilled to bring you the latest update on our school term, as we proudly celebrate the achievements and progress made by our students in Term 3.

This term we will attend two excursions. The first will be to The Discovery Centre, Bendigo on Monday the 28th of August. Whilst there, students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in learning experiences that will enrich our Inquiry unit ‘What are the forces in our World?’ The second excursion will be just a few short days after on the 30th of August to RiverLinks Westside, Mooroopna to the ‘Just’ Live on Stage. In preparation for this excursion each class has been reading a variety of Andy Griffiths novels. This experience will provide students with the opportunity to witness a live act to enhance their performing arts abilities as well as encourage them to pick up a book and read for enjoyment. Permission forms for both excursions can be found on PAM, it would be greatly appreciated if these could be completed at as soon as possible if you haven’t already done so.

In preparation for Bullying No Way Day, the Middle Learning Community came together to celebrate the many successes we have had over the first half of the term. We also discussed the importance of treating others with kindness and respect. One way we can look out for others is to be an Upstander, not a Bystander. Being an upstander rather than a bystander is crucial because it empowers us to make a positive difference in our school community. When we choose to stand up for what is right, support those who are facing challenges, and speak out against unfairness, we contribute to creating a safer and more compassionate school. Bystanders often unintentionally allow harmful behaviors to persist, whereas upstanders actively take steps to prevent harm and advocate for fairness. By being an Upstander, we set an example for others, encouraging a culture of empathy and accountability.

We discussed ways that we can be an upstander, which may include:

Be a Buddy: We see unfairness, be that person's buddy.

Interrupt: When we see unfairness, we can interrupt the behaviour by asking the student to join our game. This provides an opportunity to walk away from the problem.

Speak out: When we see unfairness, we can speak out. By speaking out we show that behaviour is not accepted.

Tell Someone: By telling an adult, we can get the assistance needed. This takes courage and is an important step to take to ensure the behaviour does not continue.

We would like to thank Hannah Forge for her incredible dedication throughout this school year. We wish her all the very best as she starts maternity leave.

We would also like to welcome Lexie Coomans to the Middle Learning Community! We are thrilled to have you a part of our team as you begin your education career.

Classroom facial tissue supplies are running low across the Middle Learning Community. It would be greatly appreciated if boxes of tissues could be donated.

Kind Regards,

The Middle Learning Community.
