Melbourne Museum Excursion

The excursion to the Museum was lots of fun. When we got there we split into two groups 5\6 A-B and 5\6 C-D. They brought out trolleys to put our lunch on. First we went through the Mini Mega Museum Model and saw a lot of things but mini of course. Then after that we went to the Forest gallery. It is a real forest in the building and it had animals living there. We saw some fish, stick insects, birds and even a blue tongue lizard!

After we went to Imax and watched a documentary called  ‘Shackleton: The Greatest Story of Survival’. The movie was about an explorer called Sir Ernest Shackleton and about how he lead his team who were stranded in the Antarctic from starvation and death to going home. It was a long and terrifying journey for Shackleton and his crew.

Then we went to the dinosaur exhibit and saw replicas of dinosaur bones. We also looked through this type of goggles and saw a dinosaur life in cartoon. Last we went to the Melbourne Story exhibit. Our teachers gave us booklets full of questions that we had to complete. All the questions in the booklet were about Melbourne and how it evolved. There was a model of a cottage from 1880-1890 and a carriage from 1850-1880.

A Poppin' Good Time in Maths

In our Maths lessons in week 9 we were learning about how to work out a fraction of a quantity. To make this exciting, we used popcorn to represent our quantity and found out how many pieces of popcorn represented 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6 and 1/8 of the packet of popcorn.

Thanks to Miss Righele for planning such a fun lesson and buying the popcorn!

Discovery Open Afternoon

We were so excited to invite our families into our rooms on Wednesday afternoon to see the projects we have been working on. It was fantastic to see such a range of different ways the students had chosen to present their findings from our unit on Discovery. We had artworks, informative books, picture story books, online Blooket quizzes, posters, dioramas and much more. The 5/6 teachers are very proud of what the students have come up with to showcase their learning. Thanks to all the families who came to see what we've been up to.

We're Poets & We Didn't Know It!

For the second half of Term 3, we have been learning about poetry in our literacy lessons. Students have learnt about the different parts of poems, how they are structured, the kinds of language features we see in poems and how to write Cinquain, Haiku, Limerick and odes.

Here are some examples of our Poetry Books.

We hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable break. See you in Term 4!
