Senior School News

As we approach the end of Term 3, it's incredible to reflect on the achievements and activities that our grade 5 and 6 students have been a part of this term. They have truly embraced a wide range of opportunities and excelled in representing our school.

Our students showcased their talents at various events, including an impressive performance at the inter-school hoop time competition, outstanding results in Dendy athletics, and their exceptional creativity during Book Week with some of the most imaginative costumes we've seen in years. Our grade 5s successfully completed a public speaking program, demonstrating their confidence and communication skills. They also continued their meaningful connection with Fernhill nursing home through weekly visits, fostering empathy and intergenerational bonds.  Our grade 6s participated in a stimulating debating program and are now gearing up for a Sleep Out fundraiser to support the homeless in our community. Their dedication to social causes is truly commendable.

It was wonderful to witness the strong turnout of dads visiting our senior classrooms following our Father's Day Assembly. Your active engagement during circle time and your assistance with our partner Pobble activity were truly appreciated. We can assure you that your children thoroughly enjoyed having you in the classrooms as well!

In our Topic lessons, students have delved into the fascinating world of natural disasters, exploring their causes and effects on urban areas. Covering topics like volcanoes, tsunamis, extreme weather, and earthquakes, they've built upon their existing knowledge to gain a deeper understanding of these important phenomena.

In English, we've continued to emphasise spelling mastery, morphology, writing syntax, fluency, and comprehension. We recently completed our class novel, "Tyenna," which the students thoroughly enjoyed. We encourage them to explore more books from the "Through My Eyes" series for similar engaging reads.

Our Math curriculum in both grade 5 and 6 has focused on fractions. Additionally, the grade 6s have been preparing for our upcoming fundraising stalls, where they've learned valuable concepts related to profit and loss, supply and demand. They'll be putting this knowledge into action early in Term 4 as we raise funds for St. Vinnies and support the homeless.

Finally, our students had the privilege of participating in a Karate incursion earlier this week. The experience was greatly appreciated by our senior students, who found it both engaging and valuable. If your child is interested in enrolling in this program, please check the flyer that has been sent home. The program is scheduled to commence next Term on Tuesday mornings before school.

Upcoming Event

A reminder for our Grade 6 students and families: On the 5th of October in Term 4, our Grade 6 students will be participating in a Sleep Out on the oval to raise awareness and funds for the homelessness crisis in Australia. If you would like to contribute to this important cause, please visit the following link, which has been set up by Dara Blake: https://my.fundraiseforvinniesvic.org.au/school-sleepouts/dara-blake

We are incredibly proud of our students' achievements and their commitment to both academic excellence and community service. As we look forward to Term 4, we are excited about the opportunities for growth, learning, and making a positive impact on our community.

Thank you for your ongoing support and involvement in our school community.

Until next time,
