Daniel Andrews-

Premier of Victoria

Visits Saltwater P-9 College

Premier Daniel Andrews visits Saltwater P-9 College.

On Tuesday 12 September, there was a buzz in the air at Saltwater College, when Premier Daniel Andrews, Minister of Education Natalie Hutchins, and our local member of Parliament Mathew Hilakari, visited our school.

Excitement filled our school grounds as Premier Andrews toured our school and visited Prep F to see the learning program; to meet some of our Prep students and teachers; and to meet some of our leadership team and graduate teachers.

Premier Daniel Andrews visited our school to make an important announcement, which you can read about below. We felt very honoured to host the Premier; the Minister of Education Natalie Hutchins; our local politician Mathew Hilakari and a myriad of media representatives. We look forward to reaping the benefits with additional teachers joining our workforce in future years and further supporting our graduate teachers with the Career Start program.

Victoria Premier Announces Initiatives

In a significant step aimed at strengthening the teaching workforce and providing robust support to educators, the Victorian government has introduced an initiative to offer fee free secondary school teacher education at the university level. This initiative, which includes scholarships covering the full cost of secondary teaching degree programs, was officially unveiled yesterday by Premier Daniel Andrews and Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins during their visit to our school, Saltwater P-9 College.

Furthermore, funding has been extended for the 'Career Start' graduate support program- a program we have diligently implemented and highly value here at Saltwater College. This extension further amplifies its positive impact on the teaching profession. The Career Start program is a comprehensive framework designed to support graduate teachers as they begin their careers, with the goal of enhancing their early teaching experiences. It offers opportunities for time-release, professional development, and a wide range of additional support for both graduate teachers and their mentors, thereby accelerating their growth and proficiency in the teaching profession. This initiative aims to not only attract more individuals to the teaching profession but also to retain talented educators by providing critical support during the early stages of their teaching careers.

We extend our congratulations to our Year 7 leaders, who represented our school with pride and warmly welcomed our distinguished guests, guiding them throughout the premises. A special thanks also goes to our talented Food Technology Secondary students for preparing and providing light refreshments to our guests, including members of the media.

The media conference received wide coverage on television news, and we hope many of you had the opportunity to watch it.
