Year Five

Dear year five families,

As we approach to the end of Term 3, it was an incredible journey we have undertaken together as learners and individuals. The days have flown by, filled with moments of growth, learning and shared experience that have enriched our school community.

We have been busy learning and have had lots of fun exciting events happening in the year level and across the school.

Reading

In Reading, we looked at the language features of an explanation text. We focused on tense verbs and explored how it can be used in another context. They have been learning how to rewrite paragraphs in a different tense and highlighting the verbs they have changed.

Writing

In Writing, we have been learning to understand the structure of the explanation text and how to create it ourselves. We unpacked the meaning of an explanation text and explored how to identify the features in a text. Students enjoyed their own examples of cause and effect sentences while sharing it with class.

Mathematics

In Mathematics, students have begun our unit on fractions. In this units, students started exploring into equivalent fractions. They looked at different strategies to solve problems by using their operations of multiplication and division. They visualised their understanding by representing fractions in different ways in the form of equivalent fractions.

Book Week Parade

All the students from Year 5 got an opportunity to be dressed up like their favourite character from a book. We participated in a Book Week Parade and got a chance to look at the other students from other Year levels.

Exhibition

We were lucky enough to be a part of an exhibition the Year 6 cohort displayed. Students from Year 6 put a lot of effort and showed their work on different topics such as deforestation, Women’s rights, and the consequences of war.

Book Fair

In the library, students from Year 5 explored a number of books and created a wish list for buying books. It was lovely to see enthusiasm from students to show their passion towards their favourite books.
