VISUAL ART

Wow, the time has flown by so quickly and we bid farewell to Term 3! We are eagerly anticipating the Art show in Term 4. We have been finalising the years work, in order to include one piece of artwork from each student, into the show.

FOUNDATION

Over the past couple of weeks Foundation students have been looking into the ‘life of an artist’. They were thinkers by discussing what they saw, with their peers in the work of Pop Artist, Romero Britto. They also looked at how they may apply traits from his artwork to that of their own art. Students also gained an understanding of how a person’s life experience can be portrayed through art they share and how this artwork tells us stories. Following on students viewed a tutorial drawing their own version of Romero Britto's artwork.

In week 10 students reflected on their learnings during the term. They discussed the Pop Art movement and consolidated some of their learning. It was a pleasure to see the final outcomes of students’ work and the growth made in learning, particularly new skills and combining these with skills from previous terms.

YEAR 1

Students in Year 1 explored the work of Romero Britto and learned about his style of art, the subject matter and the ways in which he was influenced by other artists. Students then recreated their own version of Britto’s art; called ‘Mona Cat’.

In week 10, students looked at why Artists reflect on their artwork. They thought about looking back at their work over the term and what new learning, knowledge, materials and techniques they could take into their future artwork.

YEAR 2

In week 9 students have continued to work on their Onomatopoeia words, looking at including various elements such as lines and shapes as well as including characteristics of Comic art such as ben day dots. Students thought about complimentary colours and backgrounds, assembling their layered work into a 3-dimensional composition.

In week 10 students reflected on the processes to complete Comic inspired artwork. They

reflected on what they made and described the process used to complete their artwork. They also shared and explained the ideas behind their work.

YEAR 3

In Week 9, students completed their final component to their Comic style book covers. Students thought about using basic geometric shapes such as using rectangles, as a guide to forming block lettering for their title.

In week 10, students reflected on the processes they used to complete their Comic inspired artworks. They shared and explained the ideas behind their work and thought back on the steps they took to create their work. They also discussed and clarified the concepts that underlined their work.

YEAR 4

In week 9 students continued to work on their street art-inspired piece by adding colour, vibrancy and appeal. They thought about essential elements used in graffiti art and made zentangle patterns within the shapes to create and finalise their designs.

Week 10 saw students reflecting on the methods they had taken to produce their 'street art’. They were communicators when they talked about their work and described the procedures, they followed to finish their artwork.

YEAR 5

In week 9 the Year 5 students completed their Graffiti word walls. They added their background brick walls, having agency on whether to add a solid brick wall or a collapsed wall version for their background.

Over week 10, students described how they created their art and elements they used to produce their art. They reflected on processes and procedures they followed and showed they were thinkers when they reflected and discussed challenges they faced. They also discussed ways in which they overcame these challenges.

YEAR 6

In weeks 9 and 10 the Year 6 students began to work on creating self-portraits. Students used their prior knowledge of drawing facial features from previous weeks to create their images. Some students have chosen to create their portraits using anime style. They continued to focus on these portraits in week 10 and will have time to complete them in the first weeks of Term 4.

PEACE POSTER ART COMPETITION

Students in Year Five and Six have been invited to participate in a Peace poster art competition for the LIons Club. They are reminded that there entries must be handed in to their art teacher by the 12th of September as Ms. Nishani will need to send them to the Lions Club for judging. Last year Saltwater College won the competition against other schools in the district and the winner and their family were invited for an award and prize presentation and three course meal with their family. Fingers crossed that this year is just as successful.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

It has been a huge couple of weeks in the P.E department. We had our district Athletics carnival at Williamstown athletics club with huge success. We could not be prouder of the effort all students displayed. Saltwater come away with over half of all students that attended making it through to the next round in regionals. We have attached some photos from the day below.

We have wrapped up our unit on Skipping. There has been some huge improvements throughout the term and we encourage students to bring their skipping ropes to use during lunchtimes.

We look forward to an exciting term 4 where we will be utilising the Brookdale oval in the summer weather.

DANCE.

Term Three has finished off in amazing style with the Victorian State School Spectacular performance on Saturday 9th, and what an amazing performance it was!! Saltwater dancers represented the school and community so well and set the bar high with their energy and performance. They worked so hard and made the most of every moment on stage and throughout the journey! This was the first time for many students who loved the whole experience and learnt so much, many of whom would love to be back again next year.

Dance extension students also performed their combined group routine at assembly this week to finish off the term! Excited students danced their hearts out in front of a full assembly, showcasing their talent, skill, and passion to perform. The routine carried a positive message that all students could relate to and apply to help achieve any goals or dreams they were aiming for! The students have worked so hard putting this together, and in return have been asked to perform later this year for the Principals conference on November. Proud is an understatement of how I feel about these students and how far they've come, all they've achieved! There'll be more to come soon!

Have a safe and amazing break everyone and we look forward to seeing you all again in Term 4!! :)

SPANISH

PREPS

Our preps have been enjoying their first days of their second rotation by learning the days of the week in Spanish. They have done so by singing to songs and watching La oruga muy hambrienta (The very hungry caterpillar), then doing colouring and writing activities like this week's, when they had to find how to write the names of the week with clues hidden around the classroom.

YEARS 1&2

Years 1 & 2 students have been focusing on emotions and parts of the face with the story of El monstruo de colores and dancing to Pocoyo. We have played games, done colouring, drawing, writing, cutting, etc. Students have been very proud of their hard work!

YEARS 3&4

Students on year 3 and 4 have been learning about Spanish speaking countries, their history and flags. They have acquired this knowledge throw lessons filled with songs and games. about countries and flags They have also created maps and then researched about different countries showing they are open-minded and risk-takers.

YEARS 5&6

Students in year 5 and 6 have been learning how to order food in Spanish and creating a script to film videos in Spanish. Soon, they will start creating props, filming, doing voice overs, editing, etc. Some of the videos of our former rotation looked amazing, and I am sure that our students on their last rotation will do just as good.
