Principal's Message

Term 3, Week 2

Hi Everyone,

I hope you have had a wonderful weekend!  Thank you to those of you who could make the P&C Meeting last week.  Time was managed very well and it was very productive!  Thank you to the P&C for voting to donate $25 000 to our school to bring Amy Green in to work with our staff around wellbeing and a positive working culture.  Our modern world is complicated and challenging to navigate and it is wonderful to have an expert coming in to help shape a positive future for Ironside.  Investing in our staff is investing in our children.  Another wonderful donation was also made by the P&C  -  up to $10 000 to mulch our school gardens!!  This is such a wonderful and needed donation by the P&C.  Our school’s soil desperately needs to have a healthy boost and mulch will do that.  Without healthy soil, our old trees are in danger of dying and falling down.  By caring for the health of our soil, the P&C is caring for our trees.  Our P&C speak for the trees; thank you P&C!  There were more exciting things proposed to consider too.  Why don’t you come along to our next meeting and join in helping to shape the direction of our school?  Tuesday, the 26th August at 6:30pm  -  save the date!

It has been a big fortnight in music.  Last week selected strings students did a workshop at Graceville SS and I believe they did us proud; today/tonight our Year 5&6 Strings and Chamber Strings are off to the Redlands Eisteddfod.  All the best to our kids, no doubt their hard work and Mrs Weekes dedication and expertise will pay off!  We are also hoping to have the Chamber Strings and Junior Band give a performance tomorrow at lunchtime and our Senior Strings are performing on assembly on Friday!  What a truly culturally rich school we have!

We have also had children completing the Australian Maths Competition, as well as the Australian Problem Solving Maths Olympiad over these two weeks  -  well done to all of these children!

Both the Year 4s and our Year 5s have exciting opportunities on at the moment; they have wonderful excursions to support their learning.  Year 5 are going to the Pullenvale Environmental Education Centre and Year 4 on a Towards Zero Waste excursion.  Thank you to their teachers and Mr Corbett for organising these great learning opportunities.

Congratulations to all of our P-3 Merit Certificate recipients for week 3; we are so proud of you!

Thank you must go to Mrs Marianne Huxley and the Year 2 Choir for their beautiful assembly performance on Friday, it was so very entertaining!  I have recorded it for you to watch at the end of this video!

I know that the Queensland Academy Creative Industries Parent & Student Information Night, tomorrow night, will be a great presentation.  Please feel free to come and join us, starting at 6pm.  It doesn’t matter what year level your child is in, you might like to come along and learn about what they do at their wonderful school.  One of their students will be performing one of their songs from the musical they just put on, Mamma Mia.  I had the privilege of seeing it and it was outstanding!

One of our delightful young teachers, Ms Sophie Morrison, asked the Student Council if we could all wear our pyjamas this Friday and donate to The Pyjama Foundation, who assist children in care  -  what a great cause!!  So this Friday, the 8th August, we will all wear our PJs to school if we want to but we must wear hats and our black school shoes at lunchtime.  Children do not need to bring a gold coin donation to be part of this but they can if they wish.  I believe the tuckshop will be selling a little chocolate muffin or brownie, so that our children can opt to have something warm and chocolatey to add the magic of Pyjama Day too.  I look forward to working in my pyjamas this Friday, it is my idea of heaven!

Please, if you have not filled in your PARENT SCHOOL OPINION SURVEY, please do!  Education Queensland sends these out, not our school, so let us know if you didn’t find one in your inbox.  Thank you in advance for completing it!

Have a wonderful week.

Yours in Education,
