Health and Movement Science (HMS)

Over the last five weeks, the Year 11 HMS students have been working hard on their Collaborative Investigation Assessments. Students were grouped together based on interests and had to carry out their own investigations to further develop their understanding of the course content. Students chose a variety of interesting topics including:

Health:

  • The impact of Tik Tok on body image insecurities for adolescents.

  • The psychological and personal influences on young people's use of drugs and alcohol.

The body in motion:

  • The short-term effect of sprint training on cardiorespiratory performance.

  • Using elite training programs to increase agility.

  • The differences in cardiovascular efficiency for advanced and elite athletes.

  • Testing the muscular endurance of rugby league players vs soccer players.

  • The most common injuries experienced by female soccer players.

Nutrition:

  • What impact do macronutrients have on recovery?

  • The difference between adolescent male and female rugby league diets at a representative level.

  • Are young people aware of the dangers of protein supplementation?

They have learned a lot about the research process and collaborating with others throughout this assessment. We enjoyed watching the students thrive during the process and thinking outside of the box. They presented their findings in an oral presentation in front of other HMS students and guests as well as designing a portfolio. We look forward to marking them!

We are so proud of the enthusiasm and effort displayed by all HMS students.
