Library News

The closing date for the Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) has been extended to Friday 19 September, which is Week Nine of Term Three. The PRC enables participants to experience quality literature from a range of authors and genres. Students need to read twenty books, including at least ten books from the prescribed PRC reading lists. Please email Mr Boyce on andrew.boyce@mn.catholic.edu.au if you have updated your PRC student reading log in the past two weeks.
Each day the library offers a different activity at recess or lunch. For instance, on a Friday students can put their technical skills to the test by building robots or replica plastic engines. During the construction phase the students can display their superior critical thinking skills to build an engine.
Our LEGO enthusiasts have been busy in the past couple of weeks. Building LEGO helps develop fine motor skills and keeps the brain active. It also gives students a rest from computers and is fun and relaxing to build. Logan B completed the R2-D2 project. He commented that, “he liked building it because of the techniques it uses.” Whereas Tyler B enjoyed building the Grogu LEGO set. We will gladly accept any donations of Lego or the instruction booklets.
Finally, NRL Footy tips need to be submitted into the library by 3.15pm on Thursday afternoons or emailed before the first game of the round kicks off. Please remember to submit your tips covering the next three rounds. After 17 rounds we have a clear leader on 80 points. Two familiar faces are tied for second place on 79 points. The competition is very intense this year. A leaderboard is available for viewing in the junior fiction area of the library.
The library has a range of items available for loan including fiction and non-fiction titles; we also have titles available in eBook and audiobook format. We look forward to providing a range of new programs, services and displays to both staff and students’ next term.
Book Review – Danger Road by A.L. Tait
Review by Ms Berthold
New to our library is a book for those who love solving crime and working out ‘whodunit’. Instead of bingeing true crime on tv, why not immerse yourself in the story and imagine that you are actually there!!
If you’re looking for a new mystery novel that’s hard to put down try Danger Road by Australian author A.L. Tait, which is a suspense-filled, emotionally grounded novel perfect for readers aged 11 and up.
Set in a quiet coastal town, the story centres on brothers Alex and Leo, who stumble across a decades-old mystery surrounding the suspicious death of teenage footballer Corey Armstrong. With the help of a true-crime podcast, they begin to ask questions that the town buried long ago.
As the brothers investigate, they uncover not only secrets from the past but also truths about loyalty, grief, and the bonds of family. Their journey is fast-paced and filled with tension, twists, and moments of real emotional depth.
Author A.L. Tait, known for The Mapmaker Chronicles and The Ateban Cipher series, brings her signature mix of adventure and heart to this standalone novel. Readers who enjoy shows like Veronica Mars or books like Holes will love the blend of small-town drama and compelling mystery.
Highly recommended for junior secondary students who enjoy cracking cold cases, following clues, and exploring what really lies beneath the surface of quiet places. Perfect for fans of mystery, true crime, and Australian fiction.
