Student Voice Grade 5/6

The Year 5/6 teachers had some special visitors to their Term 3 planning day, the Year 5/6 Student Voice Leaders! These students are the leaders who represent the voice of students in our cohort. An important element of planning day is listening to our student's voices what they enjoy about school and what they wish that could do more or less of. During a Term 2 class meeting, the Student Voice Leaders met with their class to discuss what they want in their learning, in preparation for joining our planning day. We love having them join us as they ensure we plan experiences that cater to their interests and needs.

Some of their ideas included:

  • Outdoor activities
  • Times Tables Rock Stars
  • Soccer nets... watch this space!
  • Research based learning/ Inquiry learning
  • Cooking
  • More free choice writing
  • Creative writing ideas - BTN reports, black out poetry, class news reports, plays/scripts
  • Book club with other classes

Inquiry 5/6

The Term 2 focus for Inquiry was Government and Democracy. As part of this unit, students engaged in the project 'We, The Citizens!', where they created their own electorates and represented their electorate in a parliament sitting. We tied this to their persuasive writing where they wrote a 'bill' to debate at their parliament sitting. Each electorate represents a different element of society (e.g. sport, education, transport). By working in small groups, they learnt about how citizens with shared beliefs and values work together to achieve a civic goal.
