Sony Foundation Camp: Medical Volunteers Needed

Mount Alvernia College and Marist College Ashgrove will co-host the Sony Foundation Camp from Saturday 20 - Monday 22 September 2025. This three-day residential camp for children who are differently-abled, is provided at no cost to families.

For Sony Camp to run smoothly, we rely heavily on our medical volunteers to assist our students in their role as Companions. We are seeking Doctors or Nurses willing to volunteer some time (even just a few hours) during the camp.

If you are available, or know someone who might be, please reach out to

sony@marash.qld.edu.au or contact the Sony Camp Head Nurse, Ellie Hotston

hotstone@marash.qld.edu.au for further information.

If you would like to make a donation to the camp you can do so via the following donation link: Marist College Ashgrove & Mt Alvernia College Sony Foundation Camp Fundraiser 2025. All donations – great and small – will assist us to cover the costs of this year’s camp.

Catholic Education Week

This week, staff, students and families have engaged in wide variety of events that attest to the ethos and charism of Mount Alvernia College and our aspiration to be a community of faith, hope and love.

Thank you to families who joined us for our Catholic Education Week Mass last Sunday, our Academic Assembly yesterday and the Ponytail Project event in support of the Cancer Council this morning.

Thank you to the students who have participated in a variety of service activities including Rosies, the Saint Anthony’s School Reading Program, Samaritans Community visit, Delamore Outreach and the Mini Sleepout.

A special shout out to the College Choir directed by Ms Dani Curcuruto for accompanying the Mass last Sunday and to Mrs Nicole Bradford who guided our Mini Sleepout participants in baking biscuits that will be distributed by Vinnies this weekend to families in need in our local community.

It has been wonderful to see faith expressed in word and deed.

Ponytail Project

This morning, forty students and Ms Appelhof, donated their hair to the Ponytail Project in support of people living with cancer. So far, they have raised over $21,000 for the Cancer Council and are currently in 8th place on the leaderboard. This is a wonderful achievement and a testament to the generosity of the family and friends who have supported Team Mount Alvernia this year.

If you would like to donate to the Cancer Council and support Team Mount Alvernia, you can do so via the Ponytail Project Donation page.
