2025 Wakakirri

Wakakirri Reflection

Wakakirri is a 7 minute long story told by dance, acting and music.

We worked very hard to be able to dance confidently and flawlessly without hesitation. The day came quickly and we were all super excited.

The day started off immediately while we were still at school with the teachers putting our hair into crazy styles that fitted with our story. The day was already jam-packed with organising and doing hair and we hadn't even left yet!

Finally, it was the time we were waiting for. The bus arrived at 1pm and took us to the Frankston Arts Centre. We got some information from the assistant stage manager and learnt a new signal called “Chookas” where you wave both of your hands in small quick semi circles. It means good luck or break a leg.

Then Danny took us to the “Jungle” which is a large room for all of our costumes, bags and makeup. There were five other schools in the room with us and sometimes it could get very loud. We had a long wait until our rehearsal. Luckily, the teachers brought board games and there was plenty to do.

After a while we got dressed into our costumes and had a full dress rehearsal to make sure that everything was running smoothly. Our rehearsal finished and some other schools even got to watch us!

Soon, we got back to the “Jungle” and had a chat with the teachers about the things we needed to work on and what we did well.

We then had a student function, where the kids got to get involved with fun activities. The stage manager also told us the running order and we found out we were going first. The room was filled with excitement and nervousness.

We performed in front of hundreds of people which was very nerve racking and even scary but at the end we all felt extremely proud of what we had just accomplished. We all did an amazing job and we are looking forward to the results!

After two days, the teachers told us that the judges had sent an email to tell us what they thought and how amazing we had been!
