Curriculum Update

LEVEL 6

What is SEPEP?

SEPEP stands for Sport Education in Physical Education Program, an activity designed to help Australian students develop important life skills through sport. It encourages teamwork, leadership, communication, and creative problem solving by placing students in real-world roles such as coaches, referees, team managers, and players. Through fun and engaging physical activities, SEPEP helps students learn how to work collaboratively, take responsibility, and support each other all while staying active and enjoying sport in a more meaningful way.

One of the best things about SEPEP is that it doesn’t just focus on the usual sports like soccer or basketball it often introduces students to less well known sports like ultimate frisbee, European handball, lacrosse, touch football, hockey, quidditch and other less popular sports . This gives everyone a fresh start, since most students haven’t played these sports before. It helps build confidence, encourages creativity, and allows all students to learn together and support each other. By trying new and unfamiliar sports, students develop teamwork, leadership, and problem-solving skills all while having fun and being active.

Level 4

Level 4 are doing a unit on healthy bodies. We are learning about healthy lifestyles and the muscles of the body. We are working on a project throughout the term to build our fitness and develop our understanding of how the body works and how to exercise and strengthen and care for our muscles.

THE TASK

You have been chosen to be a strength and conditioning coach for the sport of your choice.

Your task is to create a strength and conditioning training program for children who are wanting to improve their fitness, speed, agility, power or strength in relation to your sport.

Step 1. In groups of 2-3 choose your sport of choice (Let Mr Jenkins know)

Step 2. Decide which part of the body or what type of training you want to create. Is it to build fitness, strength or flexibility. This decision should be linked to the parts of the body being used in the sport.

Step 3. Start to build a short 10-15min training program (minimum 8 exercises).

  • Decide on the exercises (you can use your own or use the resources attached)
  • Decide on which muscles they are training
  • Decide how it is helping (strength, fitness, flexibility or mobility)
  • Explain your decision in the video.

Step 4. Create a method of displaying your program. Each group will produce a workout video.

Step 5. Upload your finished project onto the google classroom assignment.

Step 6. We are hoping to make a school resource available for teachers and students to access in order to do daily fitness activities.

FOUNDATION to LEVEL 2

In the junior years we have been introducing our athletic events with a focus on Sprinting, hurdling, long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus.

This week has been a non traditional Mini Olympics which is code for sack races, egg and spoon races and ‘swimming’ races on 4 wheel skateboards.

And maybe a little bit of Hokey Pokey as well!!
