Principal's Report

Tim Furphy, Principal

Welcome to Term 3! Before we get into what's happened over the past fortnight, an important announcement..... Book Week is in Week 5! With that comes a dress up day which will be on Tuesday 19th August. I know how much fun (or not fun for some?) it can be creating/sourcing a costume, here's an early heads up so you have plenty of time.

STUDENT ATTITUDE TO SCHOOL SURVEY

In our staff meeting this week we expored the Student Attitude to School Survey results, which is completed by all students in grades 4, 5 and 6. Some data below:

- 100% reported they feel that their teacher believes in them

- 93% said teachers have high expectations for success and set clear boundaries for classroom behaviour/expectations

- 90% stated their teacher makes them feel like they matter and 95% that teachers care how students are feeling

- 90% shared that they like this school and that they are proud to be at NPS

- 90% felt it's okay to be different at NPS

One that really stood out was that 25% said someone has sent them something online that has made them upset or uncomfortable. This one was interesting, and one that may be worth further thought in our community as we want all our students to feel safe, particularly online.

RECESS & LUNCH PLAY

I can't tell you how many times staff have come in from yard duty and commented about the positivity, calmness and creativity outside at recess and lunch time. NPS students, you are absolutely showing our values. Well done!!!!

CODING - SPHEROS

With feedback (some may call it pleading) from a large portion of our students asking about coding, we've been able to purchase a set of Spheros (coding bots) to incorportate into our teaching and learning program.  I will be taking these sessions this term, with our first couple already completed. So far we've focused on how to manually control them and introduced the idea of block coding. Take a look at what they can do here - https://youtu.be/WRMDbd13fXM

NEW LUNCHTIME CLUBS

We've changed our lunchtime clubs timetable this term, see below.

Thursday - Craft

Friday -  Chior (Narelle/Di will be in charge of Chior this term)

ATHLETICS NEXT WEEK

NPS athletics is on Wednesday 6th August. Thankyou to those parents who have volunteered to come along, we really appreciate the support for a fun day out. For those that were here last year, fingers crossed it's a little warmer!!!!

ASSEMBLY

We want to keep sharing the great things happening around our school. Assembly is a great chance for you to come and hear about these things, celebrate the kids achievements and have a bit of a chat to other families. Our next assembly will be next Friday on the 8th of August. ALL FAMILIES are welcome and encouraged to come along.

VTLM 2.0

Victorian schools are updating their teaching practices to best align with the lastest evidence about how students learn. We will continue to dig into this as staff and monitorimplementation to best support our students at NPS.
