In Italian, each year level has been learning lots of wonderful things. Signora Di Petta always starts the lesson with a prayer Ave Maria (Hail Mary), counting to 100 and then the alphabet in Italian. You might also like to learn the Ave Maria to practise at home.
Last term the preps were learning about Pinocchio. They were learning about how he was made and how he always wanted to be a real boy. They were learning about his features and how every time he lies his nose grows longer. They had a lot of fun learning about this topic.
Last term the Year 1/2s were learning how to count 10 sheep through a song called ‘Contare le Pecora’ (counting sheep). The song was not just about counting but how the sheep would drive a car, eat ice-cream, ride a motorbike and even go to the beach. They have been learning the song to become fluent in counting in Italian and to make it easier for them. In the upcoming weeks they will also be learning another song.
Last term the Year 3/4s were doing 'Chi Sono'. This is when they describe themselves. For example, “Ho gli occhi verdi" means that ‘I have green eyes’. This term they are starting to write a letter in Italian about themselves. After they have written the letter, they will then swap it with someone else in their class. The person who then gets the letter will have to try to guess who wrote it based on the descriptions they wrote. See below some examples of their work. Can you guess who it is?
Later in the term they will also be creating a presentation about Italy. They will need to create a slideshow that showcases some of the landmarks in Italy or a topic related to Italy.
Last term the Year 5/6s created Italian comics. They got to choose the characters and what it was about. The first step was to write their draft in Italian. Then, Signora proofread our work before we were able to create our good copy master piece. Some of the comics were based on topics such as: Spongebob, Transformers, animals, video game characters and many more. After we finished our work, the Italian monitors put them on display around the school for everyone to see. Our comics are on display outside Mrs Foale’s office and upstairs in the Year 5/6 corridor.
This term Signora Di Petta has started to prepare us for Italian Day which will take place in Term 4. She has given out our roles for the day. The Year 5/6s are working on the activities that the school will get to enjoy on the day. We look forward to sharing more information about Italian Day as it gets closer to the time.
