ICAS Testing 

 

Next week ICAS Testing at Our Lady Star of the Sea Miranda will begin. If you have registered your child to complete these tests, please ensure they arrive at school on their testing day/s at 7:50am

Students will be collected from the Top Playground gate at 7:50am and will be walked to the Library where testing will begin promptly. Students will need to bring their Chromebook fully charged. For any students that do not have their own personal device, a school device will be provided.

Celebrating Success at the Sydney Catholic Schools Eisteddfod

 

A huge congratulations to Kalani in Year 6 who recently competed in the 2025 Sydney Catholic Schools Eisteddfod and took home second place for her captivating lyrical/contemporary dance solo!

 

A huge congratulations to Charlotte from Year 6 who also competed in the 2025 Sydney Catholic Schools Eisteddfod and took home second place for her contemporary/jazz dance, third place for her poetry recital and encoragement awards for her lyrical/jazz dances.

 

What an incredible effort girls! We commend your passion and commitment to dance and we celebrate this fantastic recognition of your skills.

Meet Author Maria O’Connor - Book Week 2025 Author Visit!

 

As part of our 2025 Book Week celebrations, we are thrilled to welcome Maria O’Connor, a local author, fashion designer and proud former parent of Our Lady Star of the Sea Miranda, for a special author visit on Tuesday 19th August.

 

Maria is launching her magical debut novel, Magical Dreams and Sewing Machines, and will be sharing it with our school before it’s officially released to the public! The story follows 14 year old Elena on a heartfelt journey of self-discovery, creativity and courage - perfect for young readers.

There will be two sessions on the day which will be catered to:

  • K–2 (Infants) session
  • Years 3–6 (Primary) session

To celebrate her visit, families are invited to pre-order a signed and personalised copy of the book for $24.99

Orders are due by Wednesday 6th August, and all pre-purchased books will be handed out during Maria’s visit.

MindQuest 2025 at St George Girls High School

I am thrilled to announce another exciting opportunity for our high-potential and gifted primary students! MindQuest is a challenging, fast-paced, two-day workshop designed to stimulate and extend your child's learning across a broad range of subject areas. These hands-on activities include everything from chemistry and earth sciences to LEGO robotics, drama, art, writing and much more.

 

Courses are specifically designed to develop critical and creative thinking skills, enhance problem-solving abilities and broaden your child's interests. Many of the courses for older children offer a unique opportunity to acquire advanced concepts at a high school level, providing enrichment beyond the regular curriculum.

This year, MindQuest will be running their program at St George Girls High School on Saturday, September 20 and Sunday, September 21, 2025.

Important Details for Interested Families:

  • Who Can Attend: This program is ideal for high-potential and gifted students from Years 1-6.
  • What to Expect: Students will participate in one chosen course for the entire weekend, led by experts in their fields.
  • Cost: The program fee is $250 (including GST). Please note that part scholarships may be available for families facing difficult economic circumstances; you can inquire directly with MindQuest about these.
  • Registration Deadline: Applications for this MindQuest weekend close on Thursday, August 28, 2025. Please ensure you register by this date if your child wishes to participate.
