A million ways of sharing the Good News
This term, our Class Three learners have shared in a very special celebration, one that goes far beyond costumes, songs, and rehearsals. Together, we celebrated the true meaning of Christmas: learning about the very first Christmas story and celebrating who we are as Christians. With open hearts and curious minds, the children turned their focus to the joyful message that Jesus is the Promised and Forever King, and they explored this life-changing story in a million meaningful ways.
From the learners’ perspective, the Christmas story came alive through rich learning experiences. They listened to Bible stories, explored spiritual picture books, and engaged in storytelling that deepened their understanding of the birth of Jesus. Through drama and role-playing, the children stepped into the shoes of Mary, Joseph, the shepherds, the wise men, and the angels, expressing what they saw, felt, and believed each character might have said during this magnificent moment.
Their interpretations demonstrated a deep comprehension as they recalled and sequenced events through drawing, craft experiences, construction, and both verbal and non-verbal storytelling. The learners explored what the characters may have felt, how they reacted, and how the birth of Jesus changed everything. Through Godly Play visits and worship songs, they discovered that Christmas is a celebration of love, hope, and peace made possible through Jesus’ humble arrival as our gracious King.
We read from The Beginners Gospel Story Bible, and the children were eager to retell the nativity story in their own words. Dressing up as shepherds, angels, kings, and the holy family, they confidently shared the good news that:
"A Saviour has been born to you; He is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:11)
Later in the term, as an extension and deepening of their learning, the children also explored how the Christmas story can be expressed through Indigenous Australian perspectives. Using the Indigenous Bible and Kaurna-inspired artwork, the learners examined dot paintings and cultural symbolism to understand how different communities share and honour the Good News of Jesus. This experience helped the children recognise that people across diverse cultures express their faith, understanding, and celebration of Jesus’ birth in meaningful and creative ways that reflect their identity and heritage.
And then came the moment the children had been waiting for, our Celebration Night! After many joyful days of practising worship songs and actions, the learners stood proudly on stage, united in one voice as they praised our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. Their confidence, familiarity, and joy were evident as they sang before their families and community. Their smiles, their steady voices, and the way they supported one another reflected the spiritual growth and sense of belonging that have filled their learning journey this year.
It was a truly special moment for our learners, our families, and our educators to end the year in the goodness of God, celebrating together through song, community, and the message of Jesus’ birth. The children radiated familiarity with the story, confidence in their performance, and delight in sharing their learning publicly. Their spiritual growth, sense of belonging, and trust in their abilities shone brightly throughout the entire evening.
As we close this joyful season of learning, we pray and ask our King and Saviour to bless us all to continue to shine brightly, to be the light that guides others, and to share the good news about our only King and Saviour, Jesus Christ.
“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (Matthew 5:16)
