Principal's Message

Dear Families,

The year is rapidly ending! Our students have all now completed their exams and are preparing for the end of the year.

Our Year 12 VCE students have also completed their VCAA exams. The focus and effort shown by our students has been outstanding and I congratulate them all.

Now it’s a time of great excitement for our Year 12 students as they nervously await their VCE results. We trust that their hard work and dedication to their studies brings them the academic rewards that they deserve. I would like to thank our teachers and supervisors for supporting the smooth running of these exams.

Congratulations also to our Year 12 VCE VM students on completing their final assessments and we wish them all the very best in their chosen pathways.

Years 7 to 11 Step–Up Program

Students in Years 7 to 11 will be introduced to their 2026 curriculum during the two week Step-Up Program beginning on Monday 1st December 2025.

This is a compulsory program that provides students with a head start on the new course content, an introduction to expectations for next year, and the opportunity to meet their 2026 teachers and classmates.

This will also ensure students are well prepared for any holiday homework and ready to begin the new academic year with confidence. While we encourage students to remain organised and take responsibility for their studies, it is equally important that they take time over the holidays to rest, recharge, and return refreshed for the year ahead.

2025 Yearbook

With 80 pages full of amazing events, works, programs and achievements, the 2025 Yearbook is a wonderful keepsake item. Parents/carers can order a copy of the yearbook now on the Compass parent portal (under Events). The cost is $25.00 which can be paid online or at the office. The yearbook will be delivered mid December. Limited copies will be available at the office after orders are fulfilled.

VUSC Honours Band at Federation Square

On Sunday 30th November, several staff members and the principal class team had the pleasure of attending Federation Square to watch our Honours Band perform a captivating 30-minute set. Our students were exceptional, demonstrating both their talent and the hard work they have invested throughout the year.

The performance also highlighted the incredible dedication of our Music Leader, Robert Breen. His commitment to excellence and the high expectations he sets have clearly inspired our students to rise to the challenge. The result was an outstanding showcase of musical skill, teamwork, and passion.

We are extremely proud of all our students in the Honours Band, Mr Breen and our music staff!

Year 12 Camp – 2026

Planning is already underway for the 2026 Year 12 Camp, which will be an important event to help set the tone for the beginning of their final year of schooling. This camp will provide students with the opportunity to build strong connections, develop leadership skills, and prepare for the year ahead both academically and socially.

Students and families can now access Compass to provide permission and make payment for the camp. Any families who need support with logging in, making payments, or accessing Compass are encouraged to contact the school for assistance. We are more than happy to help.

We strongly encourage all Year 12 VCE & VCE VM students to attend the camp in 2026 and be part of what is sure to be a memorable and valuable experience.

End of Year Activities

To celebrate another successful school year, a range of engaging and rewarding activities are planned for the final weeks of term. These events provide a chance for students and staff to reflect on achievements, strengthen friendships, and enjoy time together before the holidays.

Year 7 2026 Orientation Day - Tuesday 9th December

Whilst our students are preparing for the end of the year, we are preparing for the beginning of 2026. We are looking forward to meeting our incoming Year 7 students on Orientation Day (December 9th) and welcoming them to VUSC. It’s an exciting opportunity for them to get a taste of life in secondary school before they commence in 2026.

Grade 6 students must wear their primary school uniform and bring a pen and lunch (or money to buy lunch). The canteen will be open during breaks.

Students will be required to meet in C–Block at 9.00am and will be dismissed at 3.03pm.

Please note this is a student free day for Year 7 and 8 students.

2026 Start Dates

Our College Board has approved the following start dates for students in 2026:

Thursday 29th January - all Year 7 students, iCAN students and Senior Campus students begin

Friday 30th January - all Year 8 and 9 Junior Campus students begin.

Please note that 27th and 28th January have been approved as student free days for staff professional development and planning.

Finally:

I would like to acknowledge the generous support of our College Board throughout 2025.

This year, parents, community and staff members were joined by four excellent student representatives, and this has provided even greater diversity and strength of voice for the school’s governance. I would like to thank the Board for all their support and commitment to the continued growth and development of our college, and for always ensuring that it provides highest quality education and opportunities to the young people of VUSC. I look forward to working with you all again in the New Year.

Thank you to our families for supporting the college throughout the year and working with us to give all students the best possible chance of success.

On behalf of all the staff at VUSC, I wish you and your families a very merry Christmas and a safe and relaxing break. I look forward to seeing you all in 2026.

Elaine Hazim

College Principal
