Acting Assistant Principal
Ms. Kathryn Carmody
Year 11& 12
The Year 8 students have spent last week finalising their major project for their Inquiry subject. They have been working industriously all semester on their design, creation and marketing of products and this culminated in their Inquiry Markets. Year 8 students displayed their work to Year 7 students and staff, and their wares were sold. Congratulations to all the Year 8s who participated and to Mr Intiyaz Ali and the Inquiry teaching team for supporting the students to execute these events. Below are some photographs of the efforts of students in 8A and 8B.

All Lalor Secondary College senior students have completed formal classes for 2025. Congratulations to all the incoming Year 11s who have completed their orientation program and demonstrated substantial maturity and willingness to rise to the challenge of becoming senior students at the College.
It is now time to take some rest and prepare for the coming year of schooling. Booklists can be found on Compass, through a post from Mr Mario Ladnjak, Head of Curriculum. It is essential that all senior students read each of their English texts prior to coming to classes in 2026. Time flies in VCE and there will not be sufficient time to read texts whilst completing regular homework and study.
Whilst some of you are resting and preparing for next year, our Class of 2025 are awaiting their VCE results, which will be released on Thursday 11 December. This can be a time of anxiety for some students. We are proud of all your efforts across your VCE. Just be assured that the College is here to support you, whether you experience happiness or disappointment once you get your results. Please see the Compass post by Ms Charalambous to both students and parents for information about change of preferences and how and when to contact Ms Charalambous for assistance once you get your results. Please ensure you make an appointment to see Ms Charalambous, and do not just come to the College, as she will be seeing other students. The booking system for appointments will open at 7am on Thursday 11 December, and meeting times will be available on Thursday 11 December and Friday 12 December. If you wish to change your VTAC preferences (applications for TAFE and university courses for 2026), the deadline to do so through the VTAC website is midday on Saturday 13 December. Do not miss this deadline.
The Class of 2025 will celebrate their achievements at the Graduation on Monday 15 December. We are looking forward to marking this milestone of your lives with students and families of the College. For some of our families, this in their final child to graduate from Lalor Secondary College. This is a huge achievement for both the students and the families, who have supported them throughout their academic journey. Thank-you for working with the College to get the best possible outcomes for your children.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank some of the excellent staff that have worked tirelessly throughout the year for the students and families of this College. Firstly, all the teaching and educational support staff who work with students and families every day. Without you there would not be the excellent support systems that exist at Lalor Secondary College. To the Teaching and Learning team, led by Mario Ladnjak and Olivia Marangos, you have worked with determination and integrity to ensure, in concert with the teaching staff and Key Learning Area Leaders, that our learning and teaching programs are of the highest quality.
Thanks also to the staff who work directly with the senior students to ensure they have viable academic programs, a positive experience at school and have the support they need in tough times. To Simon Hill and Zaklina Zdraveska who have been exceptional Year 12 Student Managers and both took on the role of Senior Sub School Leader whilst I have been in this role this semester, thank-you for the care you take with our Year 12 students in what is sometimes the most stressful academic experience they have had. To Kam Aoude and Thao Nguyen, Year 11 Student Managers, for welcoming students to the senior school for the first time and nurturing them throughout their first year of VCE. To Crystal Gray and Carly Ryan, Senior Engagement Leaders, for working so well with the senior students to get the most out of their experience at Lalor Secondary College, including organizing assemblies, Celebrations Day, Formal, Graduation, Year 12 Camp and a dodgeball competition for the Year 11s. The Wellbeing Team have worked extensively with our senior cohort throughout their schooling, the support of which has been essential for many of our students. Without each of you, the experience for our senior students would not be the same.
I have relished the opportunity to step into the Assistant Principal role, in an Acting capacity, this semester. It has provided me a wider perspective of the opportunities that the College provides for our students and families and the breadth of work undertaken by all staff at the College. Thank-you to everyone who has assisted me in the transition to this role and continue to support the students of Lalor Secondary College. I wish everyone a safe and happy end to the school year and break over the summer.
