Messages from the Office and School Organisers...
We kindly ask all students and families to please ensure that the bike shed gate is closed securely after use. Unfortunately, the gate can be left open , which can result in scooters or bikes being taken. Leaving the gate open compromises the security of everyone's items.
Parents, if your child travels to school by bike or scooter, please remind them to close the gate behind them. Let's not assume the next person will do it - taking a moment to secure the gate helps protect everyone's property.
We also recommend you bring a bike lock to lock your bike/scooter in the shed. The school is unable to take responsibility for any lost or stolen items.
Parent Contributions are available for payment on your family Compass account.
The Parent Contributions play a pivotal role in our ability to provide high-quality educational resources to our students. These contributions are the primary funding source for essential learning materials, including devices, books, online subscriptions and other materials required for our enhanced learning programs. By fulfilling these contributions, you're directly investing in the educational success and future of your child.
To make the process as convenient as possible, we offer several payment options:
We deeply appreciate any amount you're able to contribute. If you're currently able to pay only a portion of these contributions, please know that every little bit helps and is greatly appreciated.
Families with available CSEF or SSB funding were emailed a statement last week, with the amount of funds available on your account. Please follow the instructions on the email to apply funding to Excursions or camp for your student(s). Please note that it may take the office team up to 5 business days to process your CSEF/SSB funding. If you intend to apply CSEF/SSB funding to the In-visits/Excursions contribution, please DO NOT pay the In-visits/Excursions contribution when paying your contributions on Compass.
Please contact our Business Manager if you would like any support in setting up a payment plan or need assistance setting up other payment options: colin.mountney@smps.vic.edu.au
Payment
A reminder that in-visits and excursions are deemed an extra-curricular activity by School Council. This means that only students that have paid the $120 in-visits/excursions contribution will be able to attend these exciting and educational activities. If you would like to make payment in your Compass account, please visit the Payments Centre, then click 2026 Parent Contributions
With some in-visits and excursions planned in the coming weeks, please ensure you have paid the contribution so that your child does not miss out on any of these extra-curricular events throughout the year. If your family is facing financial hardship, please contact the office to seek assistance and discuss some alternative options, as our school would not want any student to miss out unduly. CSEF may also be used to assist with payment of the in-visits and excursions fee.
Applications are open for the Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund (CSEF). The CSEF helps eligible families cover the cost of school trips, camps and sporting activities.
Payment amounts for eligible families this year have increased to $400 for primary school students.
Eligibility
Families are eligible to apply for the CSEF if they have a valid means-tested concession card. There is also a special consideration category for recently arrived asylum seeker and refugee families.
Applications
Please return completed CSEF application forms to the office by Friday 26 June 2026. It is recommended to return the forms as early as possible to allow families to access the funding for excursions, if required.
We understand that parking around the school is extremely challenging, especially during the busy drop-off and pick-up periods. Thank you to the many families who consistently follow the road rules and help keep our students safe.
However, we have recently received several complaints about unsafe and inappropriate behaviours on the surrounding roads, including illegal parking and unsafe drop-off practices. These complaints have also included photo evidence of the offenders, and we unfortunately have identified that these transgressions were carried out by parents of SMPS students. These actions place children, families, and staff at significant risk.
To support our community, we have contacted City of Port Phillip Local Laws officers, who may be attending the school to observe traffic behaviour and assist with promoting safe practices.
Please follow these important guidelines to keep everyone safe:

We truly appreciate your cooperation in keeping all members of our school community safe. Road rules exist to protect us and our children, and we ask all families to support us by following them at all times. It would be a shame to have to reach out to individual parents and have these awkward conversations. Thank you for helping us maintain a safe and respectful environment for everyone.
The City of Port Phillip is seeking feedback on the draft Roadmap to Zero: Safe Travel Strategy and Action Plan 2026–31, which will guide Council’s approach to improving road safety on local roads. This work is being undertaken by Council in partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
Feedback can be provided by completing the online survey or by submitting written feedback (for example, a letter). Community engagement is open until 20 February 2026.
This input will help ensure the final Strategy and Action Plan reflects local priorities and supports Port Phillip’s contribution to Victoria’s goal of zero deaths and serious injuries on our roads by 2050.
