Year 10 Musicians Experience Behind-the-Scenes at ABC Studios

Last Wednesday, our Year 10 music students enjoyed an extraordinary excursion to ABC Studios at South Bank, where they attended a live recording of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra. The experience offered a unique opportunity to witness professional musicians at work in a world-class setting.

Following the recording, our students were treated to VIP access behind the scenes. They toured the control room, gaining insight into the technical processes involved in producing a live orchestral performance. The highlight of the visit was an engaging conversation with Shelley Bishop, the producer of the recording, who shared her expertise and answered questions about the industry.

This excursion provided our students with a rare glimpse into the collaborative effort required to bring orchestral music to audiences, deepening their understanding of both performance and production. It was an inspiring day that will undoubtedly influence their musical journeys.

Year 5 Band and Strings Concert Showcases a Year of Hard Work

Last Thursday evening, the Draney Theatre came alive with music as our Grade 5 Band and Strings students presented their end-of-year concert. This event was the culmination of months of dedication and practice as students developed their skills on a range of instruments.

The audience was treated to a series of impressive performances that highlighted the progress and talent of our young musicians. A special mention goes to the Year 5 Vocal Ensemble, whose lively rendition of I’m Still Standing by Elton John was a crowd favourite.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff who made this event possible: Catherine Wasserman, Jamie Kennedy, Alison Braidwood, Enrico Le Mura, Samantha Blakeney, Evelyn Legried, Matthew Sorensen, Monica Haworth, Zac Moynihan, and Claire Challender.

For any budding musicians who wish to continue on their musical journey next year, please contact music@marash.qld.edu.au to obtain a lesson enrolment form.
