Principal News

Dear Marian Catholic College Community,

As we head towards the final few weeks of the school year, the school focus looks towards graduations, acknowledgements and student achievement. Last week, on the evening of Friday 14th, we had the delightful experience of Year 12 Graduation commencing with a thanksgiving mass for families and students at Sacred Heart Church celebrated by Father Henry Ibe and Assistant Priest Father John. This was followed by the final Graduation presentation, dinner and dance at the Yoogali Club. Our students looked marvellous as they formally commenced their adult life and completed 13 years of schooling.

For parents, this moment often brings both joy and tears at the same time. Happiness and pride at having reached this moment in time and tears of both joy and wonder that children are now really grown up and ready to spread their wings. On behalf of Marian, I can confirm how proud the school team is of each and every graduate and the individual pathways our students have  taken over the last few years, to reach this moment.

A graduation like this would not be possible without the hard work behind the scenes by many many people over a long period of time. I would like to thank the Parish and Parish priests, the College Office team, Mrs Lora Segrave, Year 12 Pastoral Leader-Mrs Centofanti,  Mr Abdala, Mr Herb and Mrs Star, and the many teachers and support staff at the College. We also acknowledge the excellent Yoogali Club, Garry Bazzacco Photography, the Graduate Dinner band, Axi-kem and Blossoms Florist. Special thanks to our Senior Student Leaders and College Captains, who assisted, supported and MCC on the night.

The Marian School Advisory Council met for the last time for 2025 on Monday evening, to review the term and provide that very important communication between parents and school. Thank you to Mrs Denise Scarfo (Acting Chair) Mrs Michelle D’Aquino, Mrs Sonya De Lucchi, Fr John and Mrs Helen Brill for their support this year.

We have a number of other significant student achievements for Marian students that have been announced very recently, that I would like to acknowledge in this fortnight’s newsletter.

Firstly-congratulations to Anna Ooi on being selected to represent NSW at the National

Schools Constitutional Convention (NSCC) 2026, to be held in Canberra in March 2026. This event brings senior students from across NSW to debate important concerns relating to government and the Australian Constitution. Well done Anna! And thank you to her teacher Louisa Reynolds for her support and endorsement.

Congratulations to the MCC Open Boys Chess team who took 3rd place in the state competition. Well done to Will Lancaster, Jenil Patel, Connor Moore and Bhavya Chaudary, and coaches Eli Marshall, Aniket Kulkarni and Ivan Mason.

Congratulations to Rylan and Adisen Scarfo and Henry Parsons who will be singing at the Sydney Opera House later this term as part of a special tour and performance by Moorambilla Voices.

The last few weeks of term will include many events to finish the year, celebrate the excellent learning and achievements of students and to provide additional opportunities such as the Year 12 Faith Formation Camp at Murrumbateman in Week 7 and the CSYMI Year of Hope Youth Pilgrimage to Melbourne in Week 8.

We also look forward to the Academic and Sports Awards Presentations and our final school Mass and Awards Assembly in Week 9, with special guests including the honourable Mrs Helen Dalton (MP) and Executive Director of Catholic Education Wagga, Mrs Peggy Saab. So, to conclude, there's still so much to experience and celebrate in the next final weeks of our school term.
