Sport /Art

In P.E, we wrapped up our unit on AFL football by practising some game sense scenarios and combined our movement skills.

Junior students refined their handballing and kicking skills, by continuing to practise hitting the pointy end of the football with their fist and foot. Our kicking has really improved, with many of our Junior students kicking much further than 4 weeks ago.

Senior students applied their knowledge of territory games by participating in games such as held up and hard square. They identified when to use their open team mates in a scratch match of AFL 9’s as well.

In Art, students have been experimenting with a variety of resources to create art works that represent them as a person.

Junior students have used water colour paints to make use of a brush flicking technique in order to make parts of their art works, including rain. Students have also done gallery walks where they have discussed why they have enjoyed the pieces of work they have created.

Senior students planned a collage that represents them as a person and identified what resources would work best to create the objects and important things to them. Students have also experimented with colour to evoke emotions in others that look at their pieces.

AFL 9’s report

On Thursday the 14th of August, Mr Barker and Kaylene took a team of 9 enthusiastic students to Pedrina Park for the AFL 9’s round robin tournament. This saw George Street compete against Good Shepherd, Gray Street, Hamilton and Alexandra College and St Mary’s (twice) in a modified game of football.

Whilst we didn’t walk away with a win, our students showed plenty of individual highlights and did not give up. Acacia and Dustin showed great intent by applying plenty of tackles, both notched up 4 in a game multiple times. Kahn, Evie, Ayden, Josh and Dom all managed to hit the scoreboard with a goal. Dakota also managed to get involved by applying a few tackles and getting a few handballs, whilst our skipper Ollie led from the front and encouraged his team mates all day.

Well done to all who participated, and as always a big thank you must go to Leanne Willder for organising the event, the students of Baimbridge College and Good Shepherd College for umpiring the games and the many parent helpers who came and supported all the schools.
