Acting Principal's Message

We have officially reached the half way point of term three! How are we here already?

We have a very busy term, full of exciting activities approaching with swimming beginning next week for a two week period, hoop time approaching and parent-teacher conferences in the final week of term. Please keep an eye on Compass, the newsletter and Facebook for key dates.

AFL 9's- Mr Barker took a group of students to participate in AFL 9's last week with the students representing George Street demonstrating our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. The students weren't successful in securing a win, however they enjoyed their day out and displayed fantastic sportsmanship.

Ballarat road crossing- Please be aware if your children are crossing this highway that they may need support to do so. The school has had reports of students crossing the road in front of oncoming traffic. Students have been very lucky at this point however, may not always be. Please support your child to cross this road before and after school.

Variety Bash Opening- Wow! We have been incredibly lucky to have been selected to receive a wonderful donation gifted by the Variety Foundation. Staff have worked particularly hard to submit a funding application before the launch of the Variety Bash in Hamilton a couple of weeks ago. School captions attended the breakfast event where the school was gifted $15,000 to resource the Nurture room and a fully built Pod building that will house our Nurture Program (which is due to commence in 2026). We have also received an additional $30,000 to support the construction of the Pod. This Nurture Program will aim to provide additional support to students through developing social and emotional skills, alongside other skills.

SSGs- Jarryd will make contact to schedule in this terms SSG's. These will be spread throughout this term so we can fit them amongst the many events. These meetings are important meetings where you can touch base with the classroom teacher, discuss any learning concerns or celebrations and plan for how we can work together to greater support your child. Please note, this does not replace parent teacher conferences.

Racial Language- At George Street Primary School we strongly believe that everyone deserves to be treated with kindness and respect, regardless of cultural background, religious beliefs, gender, etc. That’s why we have a zero tolerance for any form of racism. This includes comments, slurs, attempted jokes or any other form of harassment. If students are found to be engaging in these behaviours there will be serious consequences including discussions with teachers, caregivers and disciplinary action. We want to ensure that our school remains a safe and welcoming environment for all.

Let’s work together to celebrate the differences that make us unique and stand up for one another when we see, hear or witness anyone challenging these values.

Thank you for your ongoing support for our school and students.
