GOSPEL REFLECTION

Luke 14:1, 7-14

Everyone who exalts himself shall be humbled

In Sundays Gospel Reading (Luke 14:1,7-14), we are reminded of the importance to be humble, kind and generous, without expecting rewards. God sees and blesses us when we care for others.  We hear how Jesus noticed that people wanted to sit in the best seats at a special meal. He told them a story to remind them that it’s better to be humble, not to think we are more important than others.

He also said that when we invite people to share a meal or do something kind, we shouldn’t just choose friends who can invite us back. Instead, we should help and include those who need it most - the poor, the lonely, or those who might not be able to repay us.

SOCIAL JUSTICE SUNDAY- Sunday 31st August 2025

Social Justice Sunday is a special day in the Catholic Church in Australia, held on the last Sunday in August each year. On this day, we are invited to reflect on how we can live out Jesus’ call to love our neighbour and work for fairness, peace, and care for all people and creation.

Each year, the Australian Catholic Bishops release a Social Justice Statement that highlights an important issue facing our world today - such as caring for the environment, standing with people experiencing poverty, and promoting peace amongst all.

Social Justice Sunday reminds us that living our faith means not only praying and worshipping God, but also acting with compassion and justice in our daily lives, especially towards those who are most vulnerable.

“ I can only beg of you to be faithful and to help all under your care to the best of your power”

PRAYER

Dear God, Thank You for loving us.

Help us to be kind and fair to others.

Show us how to care for people who are in need,

and how to look after Your world.

May we follow Jesus by sharing love and peace each day.

Amen.
