Steiner Education Australia Delegates Meeting in Alice Springs
The Alice Springs Steiner School proudly hosted Steiner Education Australia Delegates, welcoming over 50 representatives from Steiner schools across the country to Mparntwe/Alice Springs. This significant national gathering brought school leaders, teachers, and SEA Board members, together to share knowledge, discuss contemporary educational challenges, and celebrate the strength and diversity of Steiner education in Australia.
Delegates were warmly welcomed to Arrernte Country, beginning with a smoking ceremony and acknowledgement of the deep cultural heritage of Central Australia. Over two days, conversations explored a wide range of topics, including curriculum studies, teacher education, strategic planning, and the unique role Steiner schools play in today’s educational landscape. The meeting provided a valuable opportunity for delegates from urban and regional Steiner schools across Australia to connect and collaborate.
Hosting this national event was a milestone for The Alice Springs Steiner School, which is in its 27th year of offering education that nurtures head, heart, and hands. Delegates were able to experience firsthand the school’s vibrant learning environment, strong community spirit, and commitment to fostering meaningful connections with the local environment and culture.
Looking to the Future
Steiner Education Australia CEO Andrew Hill praised the unique location as an opportunity for Delegates to experience the heart of Australia; it’s landscape and First Nations culture. Delegates meet twice a year around the country to engage in dialogue and guide decisions the peak body makes. One of the main themes of the meeting was Nature and the Real World: the importance of Outdoor Education, in all its paradigms, and the positive impact this has on the mental health and well-being of the youth of today. The discussions and decisions made will guide future directions ensuring that Steiner education continues to provide children with an education for a meaningful life. For the Alice Springs community, the event was also a reminder of the important role local schools play in national conversations about the future of education.
