Respectful Relationships

For the remainder of term 3 in Respectful Relationships lessons across the school, students will be learning about the recently revised topic of Gender Norms and Stereotypes (previoulsy Gender & Identity). Learning activities within this topic includes age appropriate activities which focus on understanding every person’s rights to respect, to bodily autonomy and to protection from violence within their relationships with peers, families, schools and society. It teaches them about their rights to be free from discrimination and how to seek help if affected by violence at school, home, online or in the community.

Do you or have you thought about how you might challenge the typical gender stereotypes which children are often bombarded with through the media or elsewhere on a daily basis? The ‘Level Playground’ (https://fvree.org.au/level-playground-resource-hub/) has a large amount of information, fact sheets and resources for parents and community members about gender equality, gender stereotypes and helping your child be themselves. Check them out if you’d like to know more.
