On Friday 15 August, our Senior Leaders Chandler Bradley, Lochie Gillie and Alex Davies presented to our Years 10 to 12 students on the purpose and value of our upcoming Mary Rice Day this Friday. The focus was through the work of Mr Waddington whose passion and commitment lead to the link between St Virgil’s College and the Mary Rice Centre.
Our leaders will be running a variety of fundraisers throughout the term to raise funds which will assist so many children and their families of the Mary Rice Centre. Normally our climatic event is a sole day dedicated to Mary Rice, however, in honour of Mr Waddington our students would like the Mary Rice Centre to be a focus for the whole of Term 3. Our leaders plan to conclude their fundraising with a big freeze type activity on the last day of term which coincides with our Footy Colours Day.
I commend our leaders on their proactive approach to this cause and for ensuring that the work of Mr Waddington who was an example for all of us, that his passion and mission lives on.
Last week I met with all student leaders from Years 9-12 to commence the platform for gathering student thoughts and views. The forum which will be run on a number of occasions through the term and into the future, will provide the opportunity for student to provide their feedback. I would like to gather their views and thoughts on specific topics which worked well in regards to uniform developments which are now on display amongst the student body. I have some further ideas I would like to discuss with our leaders around what they think should be our next focus with regard to uniforms and other topics. This forum will also provide an opportunity for students to table matters which are important to them. I have set them the challenge to commence communicating amongst their peers on the following two questions
What is it that you love about SVC?
What elements and or aspects of the College would you like to see change?
Week 5, the halfway mark of the term, can sometimes be a challenging one to manage. Assessments and tasks are in full swing with many deadlines to meet. Staying organised and focused are key ingredients to be mindful of. Checking in and communicating is vital both in positive and challenging times. Our Pulse App is a great mechanism, which we encourage our students to log onto each Tuesday morning and answer those quick check-in questions.
As we know, the best piece of advice is to simply look out for one another.
